The Savage Gardener #99
Here's a funny piece of info: I just heard a rumor that online newsletters
on
AOL aren't allowed. Looks like I picked a good time to stop doing the
SGer!
Anyone know if this is true or not? Well, I'm finally out of school
tomorrow.
Last day, woo hoo!! That puts me in a great mood! Anyway, I'd better
make
this fast, so enjoy the newsletter!

Savage Trivia
Last week's trivia question was: Daniel once had an injured animal as
a pet,
which he kept in a box until it got better. What was the animal? The
answer
is, a kookaburra (whatever that is!). Thanks again to [email protected]
for
providing the question, which nobody got right!
And the very last trivia question is a pretty easy one: While on the
U.S.
tour, what did Darren name his bed in the tour bus?

I think not having a "Truly"-ish song might have a bit of an influence
on
some fans. It was a song that grasped a lot more fans.
These fans obviously
got hooked on their other songs and basic style of emotions.
You can tell
from the first CD that they have emotional writing. Each song
is relatable
to and not having any emotion in their songs wouldn't work. A
depressing
album is nothing, but emotions. Of course, it is another mood.
You don't
always want to listen to peppy songs though. Isn't half of the
love Darren's
voice and Daniel's music anyway? :) I think the new album should
work out
and be successful among the fans and hopefully new fans.
Ooh, good point! I loved "I Want You" and although after hearing "Truly"
(since it's the song after IWY) I knew I had to buy that CD, I fell
in love
with the whole album. We all have to start with something, I guess!

I've actually been thinking alot about the new album. I
think not
putting
a "Truly"-esque song on the album is kinda a smart idea. Coz
if you listen
to "Truly" it's a very simple, easy, straight foreward song.
It's not
really like any of the other songs the guys do. I mean, just
listen to
"Carry On Dancing". You really have to dig up the meaning for
that one.
The new album has me kinda worried. From Darren's description
of the album,
it's gonna be depressing. I'm just thinking about what's gonna
happen to
all the fans that fell for "Truly." I bet they'll probably stop
liking 'em.
Of course, us die hard fans will always love 'em, but what if
people
really don't like the new sound? I mean, I know people that HATE
depressing
music and love just the simple, happy, boppy songs on the album (wow...
I
said boppy and I'm talking about Savage Garden... freeky...) and they
aren't
gonna like the new sound. So I'm worried for the guys.
Well, I guess
that's all.

Hi Lauren
I was so sad to hear (or rather, read) about you leaving us all at
#100.
I've only been subscribed for about half of these (sept. 98 just after
the last rosie appearance which I MISSED! shoulda subscribed to this
wonderful newsletter a few weeks earlier I woulda been overjoyed),
but
despite that it's been a wonderful time and there are many happy
memories lying in these issues. What would I have done and will I do
without you and your fantastic newsletter??? You've done so much hard
work, I've never known anyone else with such devotion to a weekly
newsletter, and to keep going for so long. I know we'll truly madly
deeply miss (that was corny!! hahaha) the Savage Gardener, but most
of
all I know we'll all miss you, and I hope that we'll still keep in
touch
all the time. The Savage Gardener is ending, but our love for Darren
and
Daniel won't, and our full appreciation of your hard and excellent
work
won't either. Thank you so much, Lauren, for providing us with news
and
wonderful tidbits of info in the trivia (even though I never did get
one
right!), and everything else along with it. Thank you for your hard
work, and let me present you with The Savage Garden News Excellence
Award!! I don't care if that made sense or not but everyone understands,
right?! The Savage Gardener will be in our Hall of Fame for
longest-running, fan-produced newsletter of Savage Garden, in our
hearts!! THANK YOU!!!!!
I now know what "One Of Us", the original, sounds like. I personally
think Joan Osborne's singing is no match to Darren's, that could be
one
reason why they did a cover of it! It's also kinda nice.... I'm SO
sure
that "I'll Bet He Was Cool" was inspired by that song!!! Tell me if
you
agree! So, this won't be such a long one hehehe
Well I can't think of anything else... I'm sure there was another song
with an inspiration I thought of..... but oh well!! Could have been
a
Sheryl Crow song or Seal. Oh yeah! Another thing, there's the chorus
of
"There Goes The Neighborhood," the new one by Sheryl Crow, and the
chorus kind of sounds like Love Can Move You! Oh well.
Thank you again, Lauren, for everything you've done and you know how
special you are to all of us!!! :)
Take care
Wow...what can I say to that? Thanks :) ~Lauren :o)

Lauren,
About whether or not the public will accept an album
will accept SG without a love song, I think that there
will be a love song on the album. I recognize the
comment you're referring to, and Darren said that
there won't be a song as "innocent" as TMD. I think
the love song will be more tempered by reality, facing
the fact that life continues after a relationship, and
that the love never really dies. At least, I hope the
new album has a love song! :-)
******************************************************************************
*******************
I am a little worried about how the public will accept the new songs
too. I
know I will love them because I understand where they are coming from,
but
the casual fan? I don't know. It's seems you need to have
MTV behind you to
have any success. We all know how they treat Savage Garden.
As far as the
general public, I am hoping that they just relate to the lyrics.
So many
people are dealing with heartache and difficult times. The new
songs might
speak to those people who are going through the same thoughts and emotions
that Darren in particular is going through. Because of that,
these new songs
may be the most successful songs they have ever had. Darren's
words and
Daniel's music have a way of "knowing" what we are feeling inside.
They
reach us on a very personal level. The old songs did the same
thing, just in
a different way. I expect the new album to show a growth in their
music that
will be incredible. Whether the "MTV" crowd will go for it, who
knows? But
the rest of us will. I have a feeling that is all Darren and
Daniel are
looking for.

DISCLAIMER: I do not own Darren Hayes and/or Daniel Jones. I wish I
did, but
since slavery isn't legal in the U.S. anymore, I'm outta luck. I make
no
money for the "publication" of this newsletter, so if you're a nasty
big
company like that dumb Hit Records, don't waste your time suing me
(especially since you're probably trying to get a chunk of Savage's
earnings,
anyway). Besides, my life savings consist of $2.54. The program you

watched contains real-life stories. The names have been changed to
