The Savage Gardener #90

I've decided that I must be doing something right with this newsletter:
someone who's not a Savage Garden fan actually emailed me to tell me what a
good job I do on it (she saw it while at her friend's house). That gave me a
really good feeling, that's for sure. In other news, I had a scare when we
thought our modem had burned out. My first thought: "Oh my God, how am I
going to alert the SGer subscribers?!?!". To tell you the truth, I live in
constant fear of my computer crashing and/or losing all the SGer stuff I have
crammed in here. There's no way I'd be able to rebuild all that stuff if it
did happen. I have to figure out what to do just in case something does
happen. Anyway, I messed up on the issue # last week (in the subject line).
Oh well, it threw me off track for only a moment. Look at this...issue 100 is
almost here!! Anyhoo, you all know that in the last SGer I mentioned the
question Daniel had asked ("Why do you like Savage Garden?") and was curious
as to why you do like them! Well, someone decided to take it full force, so
look for her "ad" in the comments section. Be sure to check it out! Let's
see...in other news, I have a new system for unsubscribing, comments, trivia
answers, and news. Just scroll to the bottom of the newsletter and click on
the item that you want to send. I'm not sure if this'll work with non-AOLers,
so if it doesn't just do this the way you always have before. This new system
was brought to my attention by my dear friends, the publishers of The Plaid
Underground Newsletter. If you want to join this crazy piece, email
[email protected], and thinks to ladies for sharing their email secrets with
me. Love ya, Kara and Lizzy!!

                                            Savage Trivia

Last week's trivia question was: What happened to Daniel while doing a live
phone interview call to B105 in Brisbane? The (hilarious!) answer is: He was
in a parking lot and leaned against a parked car, setting off the car alarm.
He then ran away from the car! All this on live radio! Congratulations,
Daniel. You ARE human! Congrats also to those humans who got it right:

This week's quessie is: During his first year in Red Edge, Darren would get
so nervous onstage that he had to do what before each show?

If anyone out there has a tape of the Gabreau Live show when Darren and
Daniel did the famous little polka of I want You, Tears of Pearls, and Truly
that they are willing to dub for me, could you please email me and we can
work out a deal? I really really want that show!! :)

Hi all!

Those of you who are subscribed to the Fanzine know that in the last issue
someone asked the guys
"If you had a question to ask your fans what would you ask?"

Answer Darren:
"What music are you listening to at the moment, other than Savage Garden?"

Answer Daniel:
"Why do you like Savage Garden?"

I reckon it would be a great idea if we would all answer those questions!

I am collecting as many answers as I can get and I will send them all off to
the Fanzine on May, 2nd!

So please guys, answer those questions truthfully,(don't forget to mention
your name and age) and send them to me:
[email protected]

Please forward this mail to all the Savage Garden-Fans you know, mailinglists
etc.

With your help this will be a huge success!!!!!

Dear Lauren,

Once again, great job on the SGer!  I just wanted to comment on
the scrapbook idea that was brought up in the last SGer.  A friend of
mine did the original first scrapbook and presented it to the guys in
person, and she's working on a second one.  If anyone wants info on
this project, as well as the quilt project that is still indeed in
progress, they're both at
http://www.geocities.com/Area51/Vault/5911/savgard.html .  Just a
reminder!  Thanks again for all your work on the SGer, where would we
be without you!?  :)

[email protected]

Probably get on your knees and be thankful you're not getting email from that
psycho every week anymore! ;)  Thanks, that's really nice of you to say.
~Lauren :o)

hey Lauren
I heard on the radio that Daz and Dan are going to San Fransisco to
record the new album soon (like as if most of us didn't know that
already) AND they're touring in the fall!! THIS fall!!!!! :D I don't
know if this is Canada & the US, or one or the other but either way...
whoo hoo!!! :) And 2 singles I hear are to be released before the album
comes out in July/August somewhere arund there.
And you know the Bono & Darren thing? Darre had said that when he was
younger, he realised he WAS Bono!!! or IS whatever. Do you know what
song it is that the video, part of it anyways, has Bono in a tight
leather kind of suit spinning around vertically with his hands on his
butt and a wierd blue background? He looks really cool and "Darren-like"
there. Does anyone know it?

**Here's some nice news for those who "signed" Michelle's petition to show
support for the guys in the lawsuit. The petition was sent to and received by
Chris, the editor of the Fanzine, who in turn replied to Michelle that as
soon as the Fanzine staff gets an address as to where the guys are staying
while in San Francisco recording their new album, the petition will be
forwarded on to them. Once again, thanks to Michelle for doing this. It was a
great idea!!

**Here's a piece of interesting info for you, brought to you by
[email protected]: the drums in "The Animal Song" aren't real, they're
computers (stated by Darren himself). That's funny...I remember Darren saying
they don't like bands who rely on electronics. However, I'm looking forward
to seeing it performed live and see how they pull THAT song off! Come on
guys, anyone can use computers in their music! What about the real stuff?
(There's probably a great explanation as to why they're using computers so
I'll be humiliated for challenging SG's "no electronics" feelings once
someone tells me the reason)

**Alright, all you aspiring writers. As you all know, I'm preparing for a
couple months of an "empty" SGer prior to the release of the new Savage
Garden single and album. So in an attempt to spice things up a bit, a fellow
reader came up with a brilliant idea. Brittany ([email protected]) suggested that
we have a Savage Garden Musical contest, inspired by the whole "Mine",
"Break", "Words" trilogy. Rather than a trilogy, she suggested people write a
musical built around Savage Garden songs. If you're interested in writing a
play-like script, email me for all the rules (once Britt and I think of the
whole thing!). We're thinking of having the due date in the middle of July,
so you'll have plenty of time to work on it. Don't ask for the rules unless
you're honestly interested and really want to do it, as Brittany and I want
to have a grasp on how many entries we'll have. Now c'mon SGer readers! I've
been really disappointed with the lack of participation lately! Give me back
my faith in you by joining in!

**If you were with me last year, you know that as it rolled around for Darren
to celebrate his birthday, I asked you all to send in birthday wishes for the
Savage Sweetie so I can forward them on to the Village address. Ok, so he
probably won't see it but don't you feel better knowing you sent it in? I
thought so. Anyway, the time has come for me to do it again, and you have
plenty of time (a month) to think of a message and send it to me. Keep it
short and sweet, and your name is optional.

**We have another organized mass-vote to get "The Animal Song" on Total
Request Live. Here's the full details:

HI you guys,
I know you all must seem miserable about Savage Garden never making it on
TRL, but really we need a set date. My mission is I'm going to send this
message to every message board, newsgroup, mailing list that I know of. I'll
also spend my time sending out personal mail. OUR SET DATE TO BEGIN VOTING
FOR SAVAGE GARDEN "THE ANIMAL SONG" ON TRL IS GONNA BE STARTING ON SATURDAY
APRIL 17! We need a whole weeked to vote our butts off. Everyone needs to
cooperate and please send at least one message. We'll all hope for the big
turn out on MONDAY the 19! NO SLACKING PLEASE! SEND THE WORD OUT!

-Karmen

You heard her, people! Even if you don't get MTV/aren't in America, help us
American fans out by getting the Savage ones on TRL! Go to www.mtv.com and
you should be able to find your way through from there. Let's do it!

**I don't know how/where/why I thought up of this, but I did. I rewrote the
lyrics of "My Favorite Things" (from "The Sound of Music") into two songs:
"Dan's Favorite Things" and "Daz's Favorite Things". They are all things that
I've heard Darren and Daniel enjoy, or, in the ending verse's case, don't
enjoy. Hope you enjoy it!

Daz's Favorite Things

Irishman Bono and his band U2
New York City with so much to do
"Star Wars" and all Darth Vadar's evil deeds
These are a few of Daz's favorite things

Madonna's latest album "Ray of Light"
Black clothes that blend him in with the night
Natalie Imbruglia and her voice that's so sweet
These are a few of Daz's favorite things

James Cameron's masterpiece, a little film called "Titanic"
But most of all, the pretty Kate Winslet
Anne Rice's vampire books and the chills that they bring
These are a few of Daz's favorite things

Posing for photo shoots
Memories his long hair brings
When he's feeling sad
He'll simply remember his favorite things
And then he won't feel so bad

Dan's Favorite Things

Lovely Meg Ryan in "When Harry Met Sally"
INXS, Seal, and Alanis Morissette-y
Kylie Minogue and the songs that she sings
These are a few of Dan's favorite things

Writing new songs at his home in Brisbane
Watching Homer and the cast of "The Simpsons"
Outdoor sports, especially on his new jet-ski
These are a few of Dan's favorite things

Performing live with his musical instruments
Mulder and Scully and their "X-Files" predicaments
Eating Time Out bars, making him sick for a week
These are a few of Dan's favorite things

When it's dentist time
When Whigfield sings
When he's feeling sad
He'll simply remember his favorite things
And then he won't feel so bad

<bows> Thank you, thank you very much.

That's it for this week! Don't you dare forget to vote for "The Animal Song"
on TRL! And don't forget to send me your birthday wishes for Darren, either.
Also, there will be a special section for the Savage Garden Musical contest
on the SGer, and as soon as Sarah's finished I'll let you know so those who
are interested/are in the contest can check it out from time to time to see
anything new.

Peace, love, and Savage Garden!
