Yay!! Spring break is just about here for me! An entire week of no school...I
reeeeally need this. I'll spend my days sleeping in late, watching
movies (I
love movies!), and probably just lying around. In case you couldn't
tell, I'm
really excited for spring break. You know what would make the week
perfect?
If the cereal company that makes Lucky Charms would just make them
all
marshmallows because I've regained my addiction for them and I HATE
the
cereal part. So I pick out all the marshmallows and then get yelled
at by Mom
the next time somebody has some and there aren't any marshmallows.
Ok, on
with the newsletter.

**France will be getting "Tears of Pearls" as their next single! Thanks
to
[email protected] for the info!
**Asian fans can now see the "The Animal Song" video! The video was
recently
released there, and hopefully will do well. Thanks to [email protected]
for
the info!
**You can check out an ad in the May issue of Teen People for VH1's
"Hard
Rock Live", featuring Savage Garden (ok, Darren), Natalie Imbruglia,
and 3rd
Eye Blind (well, Stephen Jenkins).
**"The Animal Song" falls back just one spot to #15 on the Rick Dees
Weekly
Top 40.
**The Fanzine is out and includes quite a lot of info considering they're
still technically on "vacation". There's still no exact date for the
CD
release, but expect to be July/August, as you probably know by now.
Anyway,
if you don't get the Fanzine, subscribe now! It's totally worth it!
On
another note, Mr. Jones revealed something that I think will mess a
lot of
people up (it sure did to me!) - but I'll save that for the end so
you can
wait :)
**"The Animal Song" hangs on to the #19 spot this week on the Billboard
charts.

Savage Trivia
Last week's trivia question was: What does Daniel say would be the worst
job?
The answer is cleaning sewers. Ok, let's all say it together...EWWWWWWW.
In
the words of Mr. Jones himself: "I think cleaning sewers would be the
worst
job. I mean, imagine that! You just couldn't do it, could you?". Anyhoo,
lots
of people got this question right, so congrats to...

Everyone,
Thanks so much for you help in the petition. By the time you
read this, the petition would be on its way to the Fanzine
headquarters. I'll keep you posted if any news come back to me,
you'll all be the first to find out. :) So I just wanted to write to
you all
and say thanks so much for all your help, especially Lauren. I just
want to say that even if Darren and Daniel don't read the whole
petition thing, I think you guys should all be proud of yourselves
for
being such great fans. But I'm sure that the fanzine will show it to
Darren and Daniel. It's black writing printed on white paper, but it's
also a show of dedication from all of you and it just shows how
much you guys really care. So thank you.
And thanks Lauren.
Love,
Michelle
[email protected]
You know I'm glad to help anytime with this, Michelle! As for the readers,
you told me about 20 people responded. Now excuse me all you subscribers,
but
the last time I counted members was in August and I had over 450. We
have to
have way more than that now, so how come only 20 of you did anything??
I put
a notice about Michelle's petition in there for a reason, people. Honestly,
if I don't get input (and I've noticed a big drawback in the responses
I get
to the SGer), I WILL stop doing the SGer. Anyway, THANK YOU to the
people who
did send their support to Michelle, and thank you Michelle for thinking
up
this brilliant idea to show our support. ~Lauren :o) <~~this happy
face is
for Michelle and her 20 supporters, nobody else! I'm so disappointed
in
everyone! Well, ok...I know a few of you who aren't able to give out
info
online, so you're exempted.

Hiya Lauren!
I love the SGer so much that I can't keep myself from sending in info
to you!
:) Thanx
for putting up my Bee Gees idea in the last SGer BTW!
OK, I've done some research on the names 'Darren', 'Stanley', 'Hayes',
'Daniel' and
'Jones' everywhere and here's what I came up with:
Dan shares his name with / is probably related to: (All the Joneses
in the
world are
related to each other)
* Jughead Jones - Archie Comics character
* Daniel Day Lewis - actor
* A British singer named Daniel (aik, Dan's a musician who's originally
British...hmm...)
* Daniel Barenboim - pianist & conductor (another musician!)
* Daniel Carter Beard - painter, illustrator & organizer of Boy
Scouts Of
America
(another good reason to join the Scouts! *LOL*)
* Daniel Berrigan - Roman Catholic priests in the pacifist "Catonsville
Nine"
group
* Daniel Boone - pioneer & hunter
* Frank Nathan Daniel Buchman - evangelist & founder of the Moral
Re-Armament
movement
* Daniel Hudson Burnham - architect who designed most of the top skyscrapers
in the USA
* Daniel Carroll - revolutionary politician
* Prophet Daniel - the prophet who got thrown to the lions but survived.
He
has his own
holy book named The Book Of Daniel (hey, could our own Dan Jones be
a
messanger from
God?)
* Daniel Decatur Emmet - songwriter & minstel show entertainer
* Gabriel Daniel Fahrenheit - the guy who gave you the Fahrenheit scale
on the
thermometer (my fave science guy! *LOL*)
* Daniel Chester French - sculptor
* Daniel Ken Inouye - senator from Hawaii
* Absalom Jones - African-American religious leader
* Bobby Jones - golfer
* Daniel Johns - lead singer of Silverchair
* Casey Jones - railroad engineer

Front in
Nicaragua

* Daniel Joseph Tobin - labor leader
* Daniel Webster - politician, laywer & orator
* Daniel Hale Williams - surgeon & pioneer in the field of heart
surgery
* Daniel Arap something :) - President of Kenya
* Dan Cupid - character in the comic strip Nate
Daz shares his name with / is probably related to: (as above, only this
is
the Hayeses)
* Granville Stanley Hall - psychologist & educator
* Helen Hayes - actress
* Rutherford Birchard Hayes - 19th U.S. president
* George Stanley McGovern - senator from South Dakota
* Stanley Musial - baseball player
* Stanley & Livingston - two British explorers in Africa
* The Stanley twins who invented stuff related to photography
* The Stanley Cup given out to the winner of the National Hockey League
Noone famous is named Darren though - besides Daz himself, of course!
This was interesting to read! How about Darrin Stephens from one of
my
all-time faves, "Bewitched"? And how about this: Darren was an extremely
popular "sufer dude" name in the US in the '60s. ~Lauren :o)

This is an article you might be interested in. Business review weekly
publishes an Australian Top 50 Entertainer's list every year and SG
topped it this year. Last year it was equal second with a radio guy
called John Laws. It's also normally really accurate so I think the
reason they kept quoting 10 million copies sold of the album is probably
because of the time the list was compiled.Dale
Savage Garden Counts Even More After Mel's Million's Go
No one was able to match the $61 million that placed Gibson at the top
of
last year's list (The actor who has dominated the BRW top
50
entertainer's list since it started in 1996 has been removed because
his
link to the Australian entertainment industry has become extremely
tenuous), however the 1999, which is based on income generated in 1998,
reveals a new Australian entertainment superstar: Savage garden. In
1997
Savage Garden earned $11 million. Last year, it's earnings soared
to $35
million, the album Savage Garden posting big sales worldwide. In 1997
Savage Garden reached No.25 on the US albums chart, then fell. Last
year
it roared back on the strength of the single Truly Madly deeply, peaking
at No.3 and selling more than three million copies in the US.
Savaging the Charts
Most people know that Savage Garden, the pop music group formed in
Brisbane three years ago by Daniel Jones and Darren Hayes has been
successful overseas. Few appreciate the scale of that success. In two
years, Savage Garden has pocketed gross income of about $46 million.
No
other Australian music act comes close to matching this achievement.
The group's first album, Savage Garden, has sold 10 million copies
worldwide,a remarkable result, but not a record. (The biggest
selling
debut album by an Australian act is Men At Work's Business as usual,
which sold 12 million copies) Thanks to the patience and pushiness
of
their manager John Woodruff, Hayes and Jones earn a fat royalty rate.
Industry sources estimate that in Australia, Savage Garden receives
28%
of the wholesale price of every album sold, compared to about 15% for
most new acts.
It is easy to be dazzled by the statistics in the Savage Garden story.
reach for the sunglasses and read on:
-Savage Garden sold 3.2 million copies in the US last year, up from
953,000 in 1997
-Truly Madly deeply was the most played song on US radio last year.
It
was also the first song by an Australian act to reach No.1 on the US
Singles chart since INXS's Need You Tonight in 1988.
-Truly sold 600,000 copies in Britain and stayed in the top 10 singles
chart for 11 weeks(the average stay is three weeks). the follow up
single
TTMAB sold 400,000 copies.
-More than 250,000 people bought tickets to Savage Garden's US concert
tour.
Thanks so much for this, Dale! It was really interesting to read, and
I'm
sure Columbia and Roadshow are pretty happy! Thanks again! ~Lauren

**Savage Mystery alert! [email protected] and I can't figure out how exactly
the
three songs in last week's trivia question (what three songs does Darren
consider a trilogy? "Mine", "Break Me Shake Me", "A Thousand Words")
go
together. So if anyone has any idea (or an official quote from Darren),
let
us know!
**While we're at it, what three songs would YOU put together as a trilogy?
You get to be director George Lucas and put together a fantasy trilogy
of
your own (minus the talking tin cans, most likely). So really, if you
have a
few minutes to spare, just sit down at the computer and tell me what
3 Savage
songs you'd "do" as a trilogy and why.
**Savage site alert!
http://www.geocities.com/Hollywood/Palace/1729/ - ~ All-Star Adventure ~
**If you were with me last year, you know that as it rolled around for
Darren
to celebrate his birthday, I asked you all to send in birthday wishes
for the
Savage Sweetie so I can forward them on to the Village address. Ok,
so he
probably won't see it but don't you feel better knowing you sent it
in? I
thought so. Anyway, the time has come for me to do it again, and you
have
plenty of time (a month) to think of a message and send it to me. Keep
it
short and sweet, and your name is optional.
**Ever had something happen where something you know/believe in turns
out to
be untrue and you're led out to search again for an answer because
you won't
feel right until you're comforted by the truth again? That's how I
felt when
I saw a comment from Daniel responding to a question in the Fanzine.
Alright
alright, so it's not nearly that dramatic. But this is something fans
everywhere had come to believe, so it sure annoyed me that it's not
what we
thought! Anyhoo, we all thought that what the "girl" sings in "I Want
You"
was: "Softly as the animals fall so far ahead", right? So it doesn't
make
sense; we still believed it. Someone asked that question to Daniel
in the
Fanzine and his reply is that it's a LATIN sample and that they themselves
don't even know what it's saying. It's not even in English!! Well that
just
throws me all out of whack. I remember searching for the answer when
I first
became a fan; now I have to do it AGAIN?! Sigh...I'm still left with
one
question. Who the HECK said it was "Softly as the animals fall so far
ahead"?!?!
**If you're a hardcore Natalie Imbruglia fan, I need your help! I'm
looking
for any info on a new album/single that's NOT on her "Left of the Middle"
CD.
I'm looking because I LOVE LOVE LOVE a song of hers that's on the soundtrack
to the movie "Go". It's called "Troubled Since the Day We Came Together".
So
if anyone knows anything about it, please let me know!
**I'd also like to say a big hello to Dale who got her letter printed
in the
latest Fanzine, and a big congratulations to Jessica who had her poem
"Celestial Groove" printed, also! That's so much fun for me - looking
through
the Fanzine and seeing how many names I recognize from the SGer!!
That's it for this week! Don't forget to start sending in birthday wishes
for
Mr. Hayes, and also your trilogy if you're creative enough to come
up with
one :) In the meantime, I'll enjoy doing absolutely nothing this week
(except
for working on the SGer, of course!) for spring break. See ya next
week!
Peace, love, and Savage Garden!

DISCLAIMER: I do not own Darren Hayes and/or Daniel Jones. I wish I
did, but
since slavery isn't legal in the U.S. anymore, I'm outta luck. I make
no
money for the "publication" of this newsletter, so if you're a nasty
big
company like that dumb Hit Records, don't waste your time suing me
(especially since you're probably trying to get a chunk of Savage's
