The Savage Gardener #77

Well, I've started preparing for the next Savage Garden CD! Seems as though
I'm towards the end of my Christmas money (sob!), and since I'm waiting until
summer vacation to get a job, I'll be basically broke when the CD comes out!
Since "save money" aren't in my vocabulary, what I did was take $20 and put it
in an envelope. I stapled it several times and then used my dad's packing tape
to tape over the seal. As if that wasn't enough, my dad made me sign my name
across the back and THEN use his date stamp to stamp the date so he'll know if
I took anything out of it, and then he took it and hid it. I love Savage
Garden dearly, but nothing can keep me from spending money if I have it. So
rather than cry and cry and cry the day the CD comes out because I have no
money, I decided to give it to my dad (I also have a big "Trespassers will be
shot!!" notice on it just in case. Hey...with me you never know!). Now
somebody please email me and tell me I'm NOT insane!

**NEW SAVAGE SONG**NEW SAVAGE SONG**NEW SAVAGE SONG**NEW SA

That's right, everyone!!!! After nearly a year since "To the Moon and Back"
was re-released, we (America, at least!) will be getting a BRAND SPANKIN' NEW
SAVAGE GARDEN SONG!! The song will be called "The Animal Song" and the single
will be released in February. It's on the soundtrack to a movie which will be
released in March, called "The Other Sister". Let the excitement begin! It
sounds (from the title at least) like it'll be a fun song!! Anyhoo, the movie
has a website <www.theothersister.com> so check it out from time to time to
see if there's anything more about it.

Hmm...no more news. Ah well, I'm sure the above makes up for it!!

                                            Savage Trivia

Last week's trivia question was where was the Australian "I Want You" video
filmed? The answer is along the New England highway in New South Wales.
Congrats to those who got it right:

This doesn't feel right...I could have sworn there were more. If you got the
question right (as in, the answer I have), then let me know. I'm sure I forgot
somebody!

This week's question is: What 4 songs did Savage perform for the record
companies in America? You'll need all 4 to get it right!

MTV Asia had a Top 100 of 98 and Top 100 of All Time (70s and 80s included)
and guess what?

Top 100 - 98: To The Moon & Back is #52! But what's surprising is that Truly
Madly Deeply never made it into the charts! My theory is that MTV played the
wrong vid! :) (BTW, the Titanic song didn't make it this time too...how
surprising)

Top 100 - All Time: TMD is #48! It was higher than hits by U2 (hmm...), Alanis
Morrissette and Madonna! WooHoo!

[email protected]

That's awesome! A few months back over here VH1 did the best music videos of
all time (or something like that) and "Truly" was in it, but it didn't have a
specific number. ~Lauren :o)

dear lauren,
i got this piece of info from lycos and i'm sure most SGer already know it,
but i'm also sure some don't. from the update on 8th jan, this is the list
of the top 10 albums of 1998......
The top 10 albums of 1998
Friday, January 08, 1999

LOS ANGELES, Jan 8 (Reuters) - Following are U.S. unit sales figures for the

<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
10 Armageddon (soundtrack) .............. 3,222,603
and while it was heartening to hear that the big Ds made it to the top ten,
i'm kinda sad that they didn't make the top spot. anyway, it's great to see
that most of the albums are pop and as darren said in an interview in india,
they are "unashamedly pop". so COME ON SGers go on and recommend savage garden
to those who don't know  what they're missing! ignorance is bliss, but once
you hear savage garden, you're in heaven.
thanx for the fab newsletter lauren!
cheers!

Isn't that so weird how pop has suddenly come back? I remember a few years ago
when it was all grunge and alt-rock. I was the only 11 year old who liked
Celine Dion (please don't ask! I was yoooooooung!). Anyhoo, congrats to the
guys for being in the top ten!!! ~Lauren :o)

Hi Lauren!
I really should have written this a bit sooner, but I've been totally
loaded down with work and stuff, cos I'm leaving school soon and I've got to
finish all of my coursework.  Anyway, enough of that crap, here's the good
news!  Please (if it's OK with you) print this in the Savage Gardener!

Right, In the UK, Truly Madly Deeply was the 8th best selling single of 1998
and 'Savage Garden' was number 13 in the top 100 best selling albums of the
year!!  And in Europe, Truly Madly Deeply was the second best selling singleof
1998, only to be narrowly beaten by Ghetto Supastar!  I think it's fab that
the guys are now very successful worldwide, and of course, they deserve every
success and more!

Well, that's my little bit of news, and I just want to say keep up the
fabulous work on the SGner, cos I love it sooo much!

However, it doesn't stop here...

I  really meant to tell you this in my first email, but I completely
forgot so here it is.  Another piece of good news!  The guys have been
nominated in the Best International Newcomer category at the Brit awards, so
lets wish them the best of luck!  Unfortunately, we can't vote cos it's the
bigwigs in the British music industry that vote, but never mind.  Fingers
crossed....

[email protected]

That's awesome, Gill!! Be sure to keep us updated on the Brit awards - I'll
definitely keep my fingers crossed for them! Congrats to the guys for one
awesome year, and many more to come! ~Lauren :o)

**I seem to be getting robbed! Lately a few people (who have asked to remain
anonymous) have been sending me various other SG newsletters that have been
stealing from MY newsletter. More directly, a number of others have been
stealing my Savage Song Awards from a few issues ago. I even had one sent to
me that's an EXACT replica of what I did. I worked extremely hard on those and
I do not appreciate anyone taking my work without asking and making some sort
of credit to me. I'd be happy to let you use them for your own newsletters if
you just asked me and credited me. So if any of you are stealing stuff from
the SGer (more importantly, things I do personally), PLEASE STOP. Oh, and
[email protected], I'm not talking to you...you're off the hook, hehe.

**If anyone out there can help me, please do! I'm searching for that
reeeeeally old pic of Darren and Daniel when they were still in Red Edge (the
one with the rest of the band, Daniel had [eek!!] long hair and Darren's hair
was semi-blond). I've seen this on the net before but I can't seem to find it.
If any has it or knows where I can find it, please let me know! Thanks!

That's it for this week! Yay!! It's a 3 day weekend! I relish not having to go
to school on a Monday! Hmm...I have the strangest feeling I forgot
something...ahhh, I hate when this happens! Oh well, catch ya next week!

Peace, love, and Savage Garden!
