The Savage Gardener #69
LOL (by the way, for those who are wondering what that means, it means
Laughing Out Loud!), guess what? Looks like my computer usage has taken
its
toll on my eyes - I had to get glasses last Friday. Luckily I don't
have to
wear them all the time, though! Anyhoo, when I was getting my eyes
checked my
mom mentioned my computer usage, which led to why I go on so often,
which led
to the SGer. Turns out one of the optometrist's attendants is a Savage
Garden
fan! I thought that was pretty cool! Alrighty, on with the newsletter!

**Ok, so "Truly" didn't win at the MTV European Music Awards but from
the
reviews I've read so far, it looks as though it was the favorite among
the
audience <mental reminder to find out who decides who wins these
awards,
anyway>.
**Oooh, I know a piece of Savage news that's gonna start an uproar at
the
bookstore (hey, that rhymed!)! There's a new unofficial and unauthorized
biography on the guys! Anyhoo, I'll let Sarah (our webmistress who
brought me
this news) explain it in her own words!
"I checked out the Omnibus Press/ Music Sales Pty Ltd (they are the
distributors of this new book) webpage <http://www.musicsales.co.uk/>
and
found the following email addys that you guys could try to get info
from. Once
again, the book is entitled "Savage Garden" and is an "unofficial &
unauthorised" production which features a full colour pull-out poster.
Other books (they are actually kind of magazinish but very glossy and
nice
quality and I found mine in a book shop) in this series include productions
on Natalie Imbuglia and Michael Jackson (well, they are the ones I
saw). Out
of interest, I did a search at Amazon.com and could not find it.
ok:
UK - [email protected] or, the distribution centre

USA - [email protected], distribution centre Telephone: 1+914-469

I found
mine at the Indooroopilly branch in Brisbane.

Thanks, Sarah!! I can't wait to find this book!!!
Here are the Billboard stats for this week: "Truly" is at #27 this week
while
the album drops back to #94.

Savage Trivia
Last week's trivia question was: how old was Daniel when he first joined
a
band? The answer is 14 and congrats to those who got it right!

This week's question is: According to Darren, if you want to chat up
Daniel,
what would you have to use?

Could you please include in the next newsletter that for CANADIANS ONLY
the
MTV Europe Awards will be aired on MuchMusic on DECEMBER 10th. So
unfortunately we have to wait a month longer than Americans and Europeans,
but
oh well, potentially good things are worth waiting for!!

November 12th, 9.40 pm : the result has just fallen ! The new European
song of
1998 is "Torn" by Natalie Imbruglia ! Unfortunately, Savage Garden's
"Truly
madly deeply" didn't pass its first European test. Anyway, they're
this year's
winners for me and that for 2 reasons : 1st, they got the biggest ovation
and
the highest applauses from the audience during the ceremony; and they
"finally" broke through in Europe. Their talent has finally been acknoledged.
Indeed "Truly" is this year France and Germany's most broadcasted song.
So,
the fact that they've been nominated for the
Best Songis really a great thing, I think ! Moreover MTv showed a great
reportage about them during the spotlight about the Best Song Nominees
and
there were cuts from their appearance at the "Rock Am Ring" Festival.
I've to
say that I'm very proud of Darren and Daniel because of the success
they got
with only one album ! Over 2 years of success with 1 album ! Oh my
God! It
must be a record ! Now we're free to imagine what their success will
be like
when the second album will be released ! Savage Garden is definitely
an
international phenomenon now !! (If only they gave concerts in France
!! Grrr
).
And it's true that we've heard quite a lot of Savage GArden this week
in
France and in Europe ! Last week, when I woke up, I turned the TV on
and what
was on ? "To the moon and back" !!! It's soooo great to wake up with
Savage
Garden ! Lauren, I can't help you with your American and Canadian mysteries,
but I hope you'll find all the answers you're missing ! News for European
people : there's a new Austrian CD with "To the moon and back" and
it's 4
songs on it !
For people all over the world : I've a single of "Universe" to sell
and
also a European "Break Me Shake me" one ! If you are interested, let
me know
either at [email protected] or at [email protected]
You can also visit my homepage at

Lauren, I've to say it again : your work for the SGer is GREAT !
Thanks for the kind words on the SGer! And regarding the MTV awards,
this has
just totally convinced me that Savage Garden is more loved than
anyone
thought. So why don't we hear as much about them as we do about the
Backstreet
Boys or 'N Sync. Because the majority of Savage Garden's fan base are
mid to
older teens and up who have already passed their hormone driven rampages
when
it comes to famous people. And there are even some people who get the
SGer
that have kids my age - that's gotta show that Savage Garden's fan
base is
more mature than those of boy bands. And I think that's great because
Savage
Garden will probably be the band that succeeds in the long run! ~Lauren

It's true that Tears of Pearls has been heard on a Vancouver radio
station
(LG73) - I've personally heard it twice. My friend called Z (the
main radio
station for that kind of music in Vancouver) to ask if they had it
in and they
don't. I think whats happening with both Tears of Pearls and
Break Me Shake
Me in the states is the same thing that happened with I Want You.
Some radio
stations got hold of bootleg
copies and started playing the songs. These bootlegs got sent
around, and the
songs became popular without ever being officially released.
It would
certainly explain how the stations got the music, and why the music
is doing
so well without anything ever being officially as a single.
Well!! I don't know about you but this suggestion seems pretty likely
to me!!
I can't believe I didn't even think of that! I would also guess that
that's
what's happening. Thanks! ~Lauren :o)

However, looks like we've got an answer to the previous comment above!
Here's
the reason "Break Me..." has been hovering above the Top 40:
Hey....just thought I would explain why the Break Me Shake Me is hovering
around Top 40....since the American Top 40 with Casey Kasem is a world
wide
show. (broadcast in like 70 countries)....the hovering around chart
picks up a
lot of songs that never get released here, and that get released in
other
countries. It also picks up the # 1's from other charts here
in the US (like
Dance, R & B, Rap, and Alternative)....so that's why songs like
Break Me Shake
Me and the Spice Girls song Viva Forever have been hovering around
the top 40
for so long.
So there you go, an answer to one Savage mystery! I still think the
comment
about the bootleg copy is still a great idea, and it could be how "Tears
of
Pearls" has gotten around in Canada! ~Lauren :o)

Hey everyone!
It's your Aussie Webmistress
here - as Lauren so graciously titles me
*L*
Ok, at the Savage Gardener
site there are now some very special, arty
pics done by Erika. Check them out in the 'Special Stuff' section.
Remember,
if you have anything cool (and tasteful please <grin>) that you'd
like
published on a page (be it Savage collages, poems, ideas etc), and
you don't
have one of your own, you're welcome to share our webspace - just send
me an
email. All for one Savage Gardener and one for all Savage Gardeners!!
Also, thanks to those who
have signed the guestbook and leave messages
on the message board. A note though - if you want info or answers
to
something, please email Lauren or I (our email addys are fairly well
dispersed across the Savage Gardener site) because we aren't able to
check
the guestbook and board extensively. However, if you have asked
a quessie
on one of these entities and have not recieved a reply, it's because
we either
haven't found your request, OR, as I have just found from a few people,
you
haven't left your email addy for us to reply to! Otherwise, we're
more than
happy to share our Savage knowledge!!
Thanks for your support guys!
Stay Savage,
Sarah <[email protected]>

To all the Official SG Fanzine members:
Recently I wrote a letter to the SG Fanzine and offer them to re-release
the
"Mine" single to the club members. We all know that there is
no more hope
with Columbia Record. But if we give it a try at the Official
Fanzine, they
might re-release it. So, people who love this song and still
haven't owned a
CD of this song (like me), please write\email to the Official Fanzine.
Tell
them that how much you love the song and wish that they could re-release
it as
a bonus to the club members. As the club
members, of course we all wish to have as much benefits as we could
and here
is something we need to strive for. Please support this and we
all looking
forward for the good news. Thank you for your help =)

**Don't forget about the cool quilt that's being made to thank the guys
for
the tour!! For more info, go to

**With all the Savage mysteries going around, I thought of another one
though
not quite so mysterious. The one I've been wondering about is what's
"Memories
are Designed to Fade" about?? I know it's obviously about broken love,
but
look at this...in the first lines of the song, Darren sings:
I'd never let you down when you're in a fix
I'd come running when you call
That's my weakness baby
So connected are we
Ok, so he's singing about this girl, right? But then we get to the chorus...
But you're so wrapped up in her you don't see straight
Watch her mangle the truth while you take the bait
So tell her can't you see?
Your just turning yourself inside out for no need
Now he's singing TO someone ABOUT the girl, and calling this person
"baby".
What could this be? The best suggestion I've heard is that it starts
out by
"talking" to the girl herself, then the chorus would be Darren singing
to
himself, telling himself she's not worth it. Anyone else want to offer
suggestions?
**Alrighty, everyone. Apparently there's some girl out there called
Deafie22
who's going around claiming she knows Darren and has talked to him
on the
phone and such. If you know anything about her, please let me know
immediately
because it's really important that I find her. Thanks!!!
**We have a new addy for an exisiting Savage site. This one changed
from
http://members.aol.com/monterey/aolweb to:
http://home.talkcity.com/BackbeatBlvd/aquaeyezzz
**We have a new and great suggestion by our Aussie Webmistress Sarah,
which
hit her after reading my Top 10 Savage Mysteries list idea. Inspired
by the X-
Philes Romantic Association, she suggested doing a weekly Top 10 List.
As soon
as we get the details worked out, it'll get started!
**I know I said I'd type up the chapter on Savage Garden in that Best
of the
Boys book, but I had no time this week. I'll get it done as soon as
I can!
That's it for this week!! If you have info on this Deafie22 person,
please let
me know as soon as you can! Send in your entries for the top 10 list.
Offer
suggestions for the "Memories" mystery, and any other Savage mysteries
floating around out there! In the meantime, stay Savage!
Peace, love, and Savage Garden!
