Woo hoo!! I told my dad I wanted to learn to play the guitar (inspired
by
Daniel, of course! Watching him play makes me wonder if I could learn
to play
too) and he and my mom think it's a great idea so I'll probably get
one for
Christmas! I bought the sheet music to TMD this past weekend and I
can't wait!
But anyhoo, get this...I find this very scary! In my family room we
have a
little bar thingy and there's a piece of the varnish or whatever it
is that's
chipped and I swear on my autographed Savage Garden CD that it's in
the shape
of Australia!! I want to take a picture of it! Maybe it'll become a
Savage
shrine like those places where people see religious apparitions or
Elvis's
face in a potatoe or something! Alrighty, enough with my babbling and
on with
the newsletter!

**There's a new OFFICIAL Savage Garden site up dedicated especially
to the
Fanzine!! Thanks to [email protected] for the info, and check it
out at
http://www.savagegardenfan.com
It's a GREAT site (like you expected no less!) and it has a picture
of
Darren's dog!!! Who is absolutely adorable, may I add!!
**Here are this week's Billboard stats: "Truly" drops back to #29 this
week
and the album is now at #65.
**The responses I got regarding the Darren quote: "Underneath the sugar-pop,
underneath the candy frosting, I think there is some really deep stuff
happening, like lyrically and musically." were all the same. That they're
the
most inspiring not-your-average-pop band you've ever known. Looks like
our
boys have brought a new feeling to pop! In fact, an SGer reader named
Robyn
sent in such a great comment about it that I just have to include it
here:
"As far as Darren's quote, I couldn't be more in agreement with him.
Just
yesterday I was thinking about how much more mature Savage Garden's
music
sounds compared to "Boy Bands" as you call them, and wondering how
a song like
"Wishin' I Was There" could do better on the charts than a beautiful
ballad
like "To the Moon and Back." Savage Garden's music says so much
more than
simply, "You broke my heart," or "Why do you keep playing games with
me?" It
speaks of life, the complexities of life, and obviously comes from
very deep
and thoughtful souls. I don't like to classify Savage Garden
as pop music,
because when you listen, really listen to it, it's not pop music at
all. Pop
music is simply the closest thing to it.
Honestly I think Savage Garden are in a class by themselves. Backstreet
Boys,
Robyn, Natalie Imbruglia, they are pop music. I don't even see
how someone
could call Savage Garden's music "sugersweet" after listening to a
song like
"To the Moon and Back," "Promises," "Mine," or just about any of their
other
songs. Their album was advertised once as a "catchy collage"
of funk sounds
and pop beats. I think that's a veiled insult, if unintentional.
As far as
I'm concerned, pop music doesn't even come close to Savage Garden's
surging
harmonies and powerful vocals, backed by something else, more depth,
greater
intelligence. These guys left pop music lying in the dust a long
time ago."
I couldn't have said it better myself :)
Now this week, how do you feel about people not realizing that the band
that
sang "I Want You" is the same that sings "Truly Madly Deeply"? Do you
consider
it a compliment or an insult? Let me know what you think!!!
**The ARIA awards will be held on October 20th in Sydney! That's this
Tuesday
(Australian time), so the best of luck to Darren and Daniel!! But hey
- even
if they don't win we all know they're the best anyway, right? And if
you're in
Australia, remember that I expect you to email me immediately about
the
results!
**Well everyone, according to the official Savage Garden Fanzine, we
should be
looking forward to seeing a brand new album hit the shelves this coming
March!! Thanks to [email protected] for the info!!

Savage Trivia
Last week's trivia question was: What has Darren said his "pride of
place in
the lounge " in his dream house would be (hint: it's sort of related
to a
Savage song)? The answer is a "purple velvet sofa", and you know the
hint:
purple=violet=Savage song! Alrighty, congrats to those who got it right!

This week's trivia question is (and this is an easy one so a lot of
you had
better get it right!): If Darren and Daniel were the Spice Boys, what
Spices
would they be?

Hi, it looks like you haven't received your Fanzine yet and as I have
I'll
give you some info on the video situation.I'll just quote the article
ok:
We can say that Roadshow Music will be relasing a video for Aus and
NZ around
Xmas this year that includes previously unseen footage, all of their
video
clips and an interview with D and D. SOME OF THESE DETAILS MAY CHANGE.
For the
rest of the world, we can say with a fair amount of certainty that
Sony will
be releasing a video in or around October. We have heard it will contain
the
clips."
So sorry to say but it looks like Australia and NZ might get a more
comprehensive video than the rest of the world which is a shame for
everyone
else. I can tell you I was a bit shocked to see that the Sony video
only
contained clips, I hope Village sticks to it's guns. Also the Fanzine
is
selling the Australian Universe single and the Official Savage Garden
Tour
Book for Australia. You have to be a member to purchase these so join
if you
want them. The single costs Aus $7/US $5 and the Tour Book costs the
same
amount.
Hi Dale!! Thanks so much for the info you always give us! The Savage
Garden
Video Collection has already been released here and contains a few
music
videos. And for anyone who wanted to know (I got a lot of email about
this),
the "To the Moon and Back" video that is included is the new one, NOT
the old
one. But anyhoo, looks like I'll be spending money on importing the
Australian
video!!!! ~Lauren :o)

Thanks so much for putting my e-mail in the newsletter. Is it the 'Dan's
BAGEL' that cracked you up? I meant it to be funny! I even cracked
up,
myself!!
Do you have the mag where Daz and Dan talk about their earrings? If
so
could you maybe type it up for me PLEASE? If you just read it and don't
actually have the mag, do you remember any of it? The date? (I can
get
them on the ferry, cause when I went on one in August they had some
from
as early as, like, January I think...) PLEASE!!! I BEG you!! I want
to know!!
I am a poor little fan with no job who doesn't have an SG tracker implanted
in
her senses, or in her computer or whatever sacred knick knack you have
to get
info!! I need you!! I'm so glad I joined this so I won't miss Savage
Garden
appearances on Rosie in the future (if it ever gets that many, she
certainly
loves them! "They're cuties!!" Girl, you got that right! Although she
calls
them all 'cutie patooties' those guys are CUTE!!)
LOL, yeah, it was the "Dan's Bagel" thing that cracked me up! It was
one of
the weirdest dreams I've ever had (I had another one where a few friends
and I
were chasing Darren around New York City! Oh, and the one where I was
yelling
at Darren because he let 'N Sync do a cover of "To the Moon and Back"
was
pretty weird too!!)! But anyway, I don't have the mag that the little
bit
about their earrings was in nor do I remember which one it was (I'm
thinking
it was Bop, though, and it was during the summer), but I do remember
Daniel
saying that they liked their earrings and Darren said something about
them
too. I wish I could remember what it was! And as for my "sacred knick
knack"
of finding out all this SG info...I honestly have no idea what it is!
But I'm
glad you find the SGer useful! ~Lauren :o)

Dear Lauren, please print this information in the next newsletter.
I am 15 and live in CA, I have been an obsessed Savage Garden fan since
I
first heard their song I Want You playing on a station I don't even
listen to
as I was changing to tune in New Rock 104.1 ANYHOW! You would be SO
shocked
what a lack of support Savage Garden has in CA! its SO BAD here, I
could
BARELY find THE CD! of course now that TMD has done so well its quite
easier
to find their cd (thank god) but as far as anything else goes I might
as well
just FORGET IT! Out of every person I know, there is ONE other person
who
likes Savage Garden more then to say "didn't they release that semi-
flop...that cherry cola song-thing?" NO DOUBT this has enraged me to
a broken
point! thanks to you guys (SG'er subscribers) I have been able to trade
things
for precious few pictures treasured on my walls, and in my student
planner :o)
I cant believe Ca one of the states that could truly help in supporting
the
guys, is not! and its worse for me because I LIVE HERE! I totally take
all the
abuse for liking them(..well....totally obsessing over their music...)
from a
lot of people, but I don't mind because I deeply enjoy their meaningful
lyrics
that are so beautiful and the music that fits them hauntingly perfect...I
just
wish that there was more of them, and their work for me to hang on
to.
I was really surprised to read this because I live in CA too and the
support
here is great! They're played very often on KIIS, a major radio station
in Los
Angeles, and had tons of coverage when their tour stopped here. I know
a lot
of people that like Savage Garden, too (including my parents!). I guess
it
just depends on which area you live in. Like here there are practically
no
Hanson fans, yet in other places you'd find tons of them. Maybe with
their
second album, they'll reach new fans. Who knows? The point is, we can't
just
sit around going "ok, we're the only people who like Savage Garden".
They've
made one album. It's going to take more than one to reach other people.
But
look at it this way, in America alone they've sold over 4 million copies.
I
see their CD in stores everywhere (in fact, a few months ago my mom
overheard
a lady asking a salesperson if they had the CD and he replied that
they were
selling out so fast that they couldn't keep it in stock!). And look
at how
many famous people love them! To name a few: Rosie O'Donnell, Jennifer
Love
Hewitt, Kate Winslet, Natasha Henstridge, Rod Stewart and family, and
Cindy
Crawford. So don't go cursing the world because you don't know many
other fans
or you think Cali's lacking in support. I believe that one day Savage
Garden
will be known to all! ~Lauren :o)

Hi Lauren
Upon reading the recent Savage Gardener, I read a plea for guitar tabs.
No,
sorry, I don't have any, but once they're found (if they do exist)
I'd love to
have a copy!! I'm learning guitar now, and all I can do is play by
ear the SG
songs. I also can play all of them on the piano, but if there's music
for
them, I'd love to get my hands on them! Especially because there's
a recital
coming up and I don't know what to play! To the Moon and Back, A Thousand
Words or Break Me Shake Me would be especially nice because this is
a
Hallowe'en recital. So if anyone out there has any or knows how to
get them as
close to free as possible, please e-mail me at <[email protected]>.
I'd
really appreciate it!!
Seeing as there has been a sudden demand for the guitar tabs, I decided
to
conduct a search for them myself. You can find them at
http://members.xoom.com/sav/ and then click on guitar chords.
They have
"Moon", "I Want You", "Truly", "Tears of Pearls", "Universe",
"Carry on
Dancing", "Violet", "Break Me Shake Me", "A Thousand Words", "Promises"
(first
and second page), and "Santa Monica". However, if anyone wants "Truly"
for the
piano AND guitar, the music sheet is available to buy at most music
stores.
Hope this helps! ~Lauren :o)

Hey Lauren!!
I just switched on my TV to Much Music, and I tuned in during the middle
of
the Tears of Pearls Video!!! It was on a TV show called "Much
On Demand",
where you request songs for people. I was so surprised to see
it! It`s
awesome, from The Japan concert where they took all the photos for
the inside
of the Japan Truly CD. It was amazing!! I just thought
I`d Email you. I
just screamed when I saw it!! It was so great!!
How cool!!!! Considering TOP hasn't even been released yet (anywhere),
that's
amazing!! And I DID get the SG Video Collection for my birthday, so
I know how
great that video is!! ~Lauren :o)

Lauren-
Hi! I just was wondering if in your next letter you could tell everyone
that
unfortunately, I am closing down the Savage Garden Cafe chatroom for
the final
time. Some people responded but when I arrived at my chat one Saturday,
no one
was in there! I must say I was very disspirited. I am guessing that
all of the
people forgot when the chat was being held and that is okay. But I
hope you
can just put a little note in the next S.G.er telling anyone that did
or was
planning on coming that the chat has been closed down. Thanks!

Hi there. I'm from Vancouver Canada. I wonder if any other
SGfans out there
saw Darren on YTV Hit List on Saturday. When I turned on the
TV, the
interview was almost over....sob. But still...I'm so excited
to see Daz
(although he looks really tired and needed some sleep). Sorry
for those who
likes Dan better cos he is not there. Oh yeah. By the way, do
any of you guys
if the Savage Garden Video will be released in Canada? Please send
me a mail
if you have the answer. Thanz.
