The Savage Gardener #63
Welcome to the 63rd issue of the SGer!! I'm very pleased right now because
I've found a guy at my school that looks just like Daniel in the American
Truly video (thanks to my friend Kian for finding him in the first
place,
LOL). Now it's balanced since I found a Darren look-a-like at the mall
once!
Anyway, he's a Swedish exchange student, so if any of you are Swedish
or speak
Swedish, could you help me translate the Finger Lick line ("Let me
take you
home and get you into something dry")? If you can, I'd appreciate it!!
And no,
I'm not planning on trying it...I'm just curious!!! :D

**Here are this week's Billboard stats: "Truly" is at #27 this week
while the
album itself is at #53.
**"To the Moon and Back" hits #30 on this week's Rick Dees Weekly Top
40
chart.
**Alrighty, since I'm having trouble making the article of the week
work, I've
decided to change it. Instead, I think I'll just bring up a quote or
something
and you can email your thoughts on it. I already have the perfect way
to start
it off, and it's a quote from Darren: "Underneath the sugar-pop, underneath
the candy frosting, I think there is some really deep stuff happening,
like
lyrically and musically." Obviously, what he's talking about here is
their
music and how while their music is pop and the stereotype of pop is
it's all
sugary sweet make-your-teeth-hurt, they really put some deep feelings
into
their songs. I wouldn't exactly call "To the Moon and Back" or "Mine"
a sugary
sweet make-you-sick song, but would you? Email me your thoughts on
this!!

Savage Trivia
Last week's question was: When Daniel was about 16, he had a dream and
it
actually came to life. What happened in the dream? The answer was he
dreamed
he had cut off his finger and when he got to work the next morning
(he worked
at a printing press with his brother's girlfriend) he got his finger
caught in
the machine. It didn't cut it off (thankfully...or else Daniel wouldn't
be
able to play the guitar/keyboard!), but it was hurt pretty badly. Anyhoo,
congrats to those who got it right:

This week's trivia question is: What has Darren said his "pride of place
in
the lounge " in his dream house would be (hint: it's sort of related
to a
Savage song)?

Hi Lauren,
Well, I'm not sure you remember, but a few weeks ago I wrote to you
(actually
the whole newsletter) about a web site I'm helping to design, The 17th
Garden.
I explained that I personally would love to see Savage Garden in the
Music
pages, but that I needed to convince the other people working on the
site that
it was a good idea. So I suggested a list of names - mainly members
of the
newsletter - of people who would also like to see Darren and Daniel
on the
site. You were kind enough to put my request in the newsletter - but
unfortunately, out of hundreds of members, less than ten responded.
Needless
to say, I was extremely disappointed. It's disheartening to think that
a true
fan wouldn't take thirty seconds' time to send a simple e-mail!
The 17th
Garden is expected to be a high-traffic site, and the more people that
know
about Savage Garden, the better. Why wouldn't we want them to keep
getting the
attention they deserve?
At any rate, I would like to thank the few people who DID take the
time to add
their names to the list. After much debate, I decided to talk to the
other
site founders with only the few names I had, and my own opinion. I'm
happy to
report that, since I agreed to take on the production of the entire
Music
section myself, Savage Garden will be appearing in The 17th Garden.
I'll be
sure to let you and the rest of the loyal fans know when the site officially
opens. Once again, thank you for mentioning this in the first place,
and thank
you to those of you who took the time to act on it.
I certainly do remember that and I'm also extremely disappointed that
only a
small amount of people responded!! Come on, people!!!! I get lots of
emails
saying how SG isn't getting the attention they deserve, well here's
why!!!
Even the littlest thing could help, so next time something like this
rolls
around, help out!!! Sorry, just to had to vent there. Anyhoo, I'm terribly
sorry that this happened, and next time I won't stop bugging everyone
until
they help out (like with the Mine petition)!!! ~Lauren :o)

Hey all-
I'm looking for some SG guitar tabs, especially for the acoustic "I
Want You."
If you have a site with them on it or know of a site, can you please
send me
the link?

Hi Lauren, I just found the date for the ARIA's this year if anyone
wants to
know to tape it in Australia or find the results on the internet from
overseas. MTV news stated that the ARIA's will be held in Sydney (again)
on
the 20th of this month (october).
Thanks for that info, Dale! I expect one of you Aussies out there to
email me
immediately after the awards and let us know how the guys do! ~Lauren

Hi Lauren!
Today I was listening to the Rick Dees Weekly Top 40. What?? No To
the Moon
and Back?? Unless it actually climbed back up and I didn't hear it,
I'd say
it's fallen off the charts!! No Savage Garden on the charts?? This
calls for
desperate measures!! C'mon, people!! Let's get this wonderful song
back up
there!! If Daz and Dan found out that their re-release did NOT do any
more
than half as well as TMD did, then maybe those guys and Columbia would
release
another single. (And I wonder what would happen if they were to re-release
TMD?? Now that would be something! Peak at #3? It might not be a good
idea,
though.) I thought that Break Me Shake Me was released in the US? It's
certainly doin not too badly in Canada. It was on the Z Hot Ten At
Ten a few
times, and it charted up to #7 or 8. It has good airplay.
When I was in HMV today exchanging my new defective BSB cd, I noticed
that
Savage Garden's album fell from #7 to #14 (the very LAST!!) on the
"HMV chart"
in one week! I hope their new album will do 5 times as well as this
one did!
Pray for da guys, people!! I object to tha fact that they put the album
in
with Soul and Dance!!
Has anyone seen a certain BSB mag with other artists in it before?
A friend of
mine invited me over last Thursday and I saw this incredible photo
of SG on
her wall- DROOL!!! It's better than all my 230 or more photos!! She
said she
got it in this BSB mag. I scanned it in and it looks amazing despite
the light
streaks on Daz's gorgeous face that a pic of Jimmy Ray on the back
(whom my
friend, her dad, another friend, my sister and myself all find excruciatingly
and unbearably 'put it away!!' ugly) caused because of his dead white
hands
and ghost-white face (I hope no fans of SG think this guy is cute...
sorry).
Oh well. Do you want it? So do I!!!!! I wish it were MINE and I would
trade
THREE pics of SG to get it!! (Just a trade divine, and it could be
mine...)
Do you know if a rerun of SG on Gabereau Live will play sometime? At
the time
I didn't really know about SG and frankly I'd never heard them (except
for
maybe I Want You) and didn't listen to pop and dance yet. So all I
have is a
tiny part of them performing I Want You as part of a Gabereau Live
commercial.
Does anyone have it taped? The other thing is the I guess, written?
thing
about Daz and Dan's earrings? Dan's BAGEL? I forget which issue I read
it in.
If it's in a SG'er issue that tells about it, could you please tell
me which
one? And if it's a mag, could kind somebody out there PLEASE do me
a huge fave
and type it up and send it to me: <[email protected]> Thanks
sooo much!
Oh, and could someone please let me know when they next appear on
TV played in Canada, even if it's rerun. Thanx! I love the guys. Only
twice
have I not found out from the SG'er about TV appearances, and twice
I
discovered it myself.
Oh my god this is long. But, hey, I'm a 13-year-old writer. What am
I s'posed
ta do?
Anyway, gotta go, Bye!
LOL!! One part of this message just cracked me up! The thing about Dan's
Bagel
is actually something you must have read in the SGer, because it was
a dream I
had a while ago! I dreamed I was at a bagel shop in Los Angeles and
they had
one named Dan's Bagel because it was round like Daniel's earring(s).
And being
so interested in dream interpretations, I figured that that must have
come
about because earlier that day I had read a little thing in one of
those
teenybopper magazines where Darren and Daniel were talking about their
earrings. Weird, I know! Anyhoo, you must have missed TTMAB because
it hit #30
this past weekend. It's still on the countdown, so don't worry. And
actually,
TTMAB did well enough this time around to establish a temporary place
in
music. Why only temporary? Because their second album is the deciding
factor
as to whether or not they'll be in for longer. I'm sure their next
one will do
great!!!! And also, considering their album has been out almost a year
and
half, it's still doing great! "Break Me Shake Me" I've heard will be
the next
single we get. But so far, we here in the US haven't gotten it yet
(I've heard
around November). Oh, and I know that pinup your friend has...it's
hanging on
my bedroom wall as we speak. Delicious, isn't it?? ~Lauren :o)

Lauren, did you ever wonder what Darren and Daniels names meant?
Well I was
being bored on the internet and I found this place that said what different
names mean. So of course I looked up Dan and Daz. I thought
it was cool.
DANIEL: Hebrew for "God is my judge." Deservedly popular;
a name with solid
biblical roots and one that goes well with almost every surname.
Relatives:
Dan, Danny, Danni, Daniels, Danilo, Danil, Dana, Danna. Namesakes:
Daniel
Boone, Danny Sullivan, Dan Rather, Jack Daniels. They should add Daniel
Jones
DARREN: Old English for "rocky hill." Relatives: Darrin,
Darin, Dare, Dara,
Darra, Darryn. Namesakes: Darren McGavin, Deron Johnson,
Bobby Darin. They
should add Darren Hayes
Alrighty, you're going to think I'm insane, but I've already checked
out what
their names mean! In fact, the meaning of names has become a favorite
activity
of mine and Sarah, our Aussie correspondant/webmistress! So of course,
we HAD
to find out what our two heros' names mean! "Darren" actually gained
popularity in the 50s and 60s and was pretty often the name of surfers
(also
the name of my favorite TV husband, Darrin Stephens from Bewitched!),
and of
course, Daniel has been around since the beginning of time and still
remains a
favorite. Pretty cool, huh? ~Lauren :o)

Hi Lauren !
Man ! The SGer
is definatley the best information for me !
Keep the Garden !!!
(can you please print this in the next
SGer ? Thanks !)
Can anybody tell me if the Savage Garden Video
Collection will be
launced in Europe ? And if so, when ?
Mail me : [email protected]
I have no idea when/if the Video Collection will be released in Europe,
but I
would imagine so since it's being released in the U.S. and Japan. It'll
probably be a couple months, but I won't be surprised if it lands on
your
shelves! ~Lauren :o)

I just checked the Kasey's top 40 or American top 40 chart or whatever
it is and "Break Me Shake Me" IS LISTED IN THE "Hovering Around the
Top
40" list!!! WHERE IS IT BEING PLAYED? WHEN WAS IT RELEASED?!?!?!
Hoping someone on the newsletter knows! See for yourself:
http://charter.simplenet.com/kclatest.htm
I'm just as stunned as you are!! I haven't heard anything about BMSM
being
released in the US yet, and ususally the official Sony site announces
its
release that day. The only thing I can think of is that since it's
released in
Canada and we're so close...naa, never mind. It doesn't make sense.

Hi Lauren~
Well,I went to 4 stores today looking for the Savage Garden Video Collection
with no luck! :o(
But then I came on the computer and visited CDnow and I'll be getting
it soon!
I even got it for $5.00 off because I answered a few trivia questions
correctly! Cool, huh? I went to 3 music stores and was saddened by their
lack
of SG CDs! I did get a To the Moon and Back CD for only $5.95.I also
found a
Break Me,Shake Me CD which I wish I had also gotten. It was $14.95
and at
CDnow it's $19.99! I'll have to go back for it! All the stores had
the US CD
and a TMD single.I was hoping to find an Aussie CD,but no luck..not
even at
Tower!! Also, you might want to include this in the newsletter,I found
a poster
of the guys at Tower for $4.99! What a deal!! So,if anyone is interested
have
them check out their Tower or they can e-mail me and we can work something
out
so I can send it to them. I know that a lot of fans are having trouble
finding
posters! I'm including a picture of what the poster looks like.I guess
that's
it for now! Talk to you later! :o)
Thanks so much for that info!! I have to wait until my birthday party
to get
it (and the video collection, dangit! That's 2 whole days from now!)
but I'm
just thrilled that there's a poster out now!!! I need to clear my Mulder
and
Scully poster off the wall now! ~Lauren :o)

Hi everyone! After reading some early issues of the savage gardener,
I
thought this would be a great time to do another poll of favorite songs
among
SGer readers. There will be two seperate categories for you to
vote, the first category will be songs on the us version album and
the second
category will be songs on import albums and b-side singles. Be sure
to vote
for one song in each category. One thing thats very important, do not
send
your voting results to Lauren the editor of the SGer! They will most
likely
get lost. Please mail all votes to [email protected] list "poll"
in the
subject heading and then in the body all you have to do is type 1.
