**Alrighty, Savage Garden: The Video Collection will most definitely
hit
stores this TUESDAY, OCTOBER 6th. It will include the music videos
for I Want
You, To the Moon and Back (new or old is not known), Truly Madly Deeply,
Break
Me Shake Me, and Tears of Pearls. This is a MUST HAVE item!!!!!
**TTMAB is down to #30 on the Rick Dees Weekly Top 40. Sheesh, I hear
it a lot
now...it doesn't make sense!
**Billboard stats: Truly drops down 1 spot to #26 while TTMAB drops
off the
charts completely (stupid Billboard people!). The album also drops
back to
#43.
**WOO HOO!!!!! Congrats to DARREN AND DANIEL!!!!! [email protected]
informed
me that the guys made it into the 1999 Guiness Book of World Records
for their
amazing record of 10 wins at the ARIA awards last October. Way to go,
guys!!!!
**For the article of the week, congrats to [email protected]!!! She's
our
first winner! However, I'm changing the format of this so that YOU
can decide
what you want to write about. Anyhoo, congrats to Vicki, and here's
her
article!!
SAVAGE GARDEN VS. Boy Bands
My personal opinion of Savage Garden versus
boy bands (such as Backstreet
Boys, N'Sync, Hanson, etc.) is that they should not be classified together.
Many people put them all in the same genre, but as loyal SG fans know,
the
differences are extremely obvious.
Savage Garden is a mature adult band singing
and playing emotional,
meaningful music. They are grown men with experience in the world,
and they
are well educated enough to know exactly what they are singing about.
The
lyrics and captivating tunes mean something to them in their hearts
and souls,
and have a special place in their fans' hearts as well.
This is pretty much the opposite for the other
"boy bands" the world has
come to know as of lately. These groups, to me, are what people
tend to call
"one hit wonders", metaphorically speaking, of course. Boy bands
nowadays are
typically dance/pop. On the other hand, if I had my way, I would
call Savage
Garden "Lyrically Inclined Pop". Other bands/artists in this category
would be
those such as Sarah McLachlan, Duncan Sheik, Jewel, Fiona Apple, and
any other
musicians
whose music it deeply affecting and touching. SG is quite unique,
so many
would disagree with what I am saying, but I am simply stating my look
on
things.
Getting back to the point, the boy bands today
are simply too wrapped up
in themselves and going through puberty to write about anything else
than
Mmmbopping, torn up hearts, never breaking hearts, and being invisible.
From
my point of view, this type of lyric and music is incredibly immature,
shallow, and I am not sorry to say I am ashamed that music has come
to this.
I am not questioning the talents of these bands, but I would
like to say that
I have some taste in music, so I gravitate towards older, more mature
groups,
such as the perfect example of what a band should be, Savage Garden.

Savage Trivia
Alrighty, last week's trivia question was: What special thing happens
to
Daniel when he falls asleep? The answer is he gets this spiritual humming
sensation and that his body is asleep but his mind's still awake. Isn't
that
awesome?! Anyhoo, I'm delighted that more people are getting the trivia
questions right!! Congrats to those who did:

This week's question is another thing that happened to Daniel: When
he was
about 16, he had a dream and it actually came to life. What happened
in the
dream?

Hi, I got the latest news from Sony Japan. The release date of
the video
collection is finally set--October 28. The title is "The Video
Collection--Savage Garden Videography." It's 3,255 yen(tax included)(about
23
dollars). Sony said, "You can look forward to the package design,
too!"
And Sony Japan will release a new single CD in November. It's
"Santa
Monica" (which is one of my most favorites). A live version of
the song will
be included, too.
Lauren, thanks always for your devotion and excellent work!
And thank you for taking the time to update us on what's happening in
Japan!!
With Tears of Pearls hitting the UK and Santa Monica hitting Japan
in
November, it looks more likely America will see Break Me Shake Me!!

Hey Lauren!
I'm working on a little project for Savage Garden and I'd like
as much people
as possible to participate. I figured if anyone who can help me, it
would have
to be the owner of the best SG newsletter on the web!(duh)I was wondering
if
you could inform the subscribers of the Savage Gardener about a scrapbook
that
I'm doing. I'm putting together a scrapbook filled with Savage Garden
inspired
poetry, art, and some other stuff and mailing it to the Official Fanzine
in
Australia. It is called "A Savage Poetry Collection" and was originally
supposed to be just my poems but I don't have enough works to fill
it up and
thought it would be great for Darren and Daniel to see how much other
people
are inspired by their talents. Can you ask them to contact me
for full
details at ([email protected])? I'd be ever so grateful as a new and
devoted
member of your newsletter.
"The best SG newsletter on the web"? Wow! That's quite a compliment!
I hope
lots of people participate! I know I am! ~Lauren :o)

Dear Lauren,
I just wanted to Thank you for putting a notice
about the S.G. fan quilt
on the SGer...I'm the one who started it and it was my Mom who emailed
you. I
did have one comment though; you said that the quilt was only for those
who
went to the TTM&B tour, actually this is meant to be for ALL U.S./Canadian
fans. I know that there are a lot of fans that didn't have a
S.G. concert
near them and didn't have the means to travel elsewhere to see them,
so its
not only for those who went to the concerts - basically anyone within
these
two countries who wants to participate. And if you're putting
this note into
your next email, thanks to the few people who have put a link to my
site on
thier webpages and thanks to Maggie Woodley (CAN), who sent in the
first
square.
As I side note, people have been wondering
WHY I decided to do this.
Well, besides the fact that S.G. is AWESOME, (that much is obvious),
they
really show that they appreciate thier fans and they should know to
what
lengths some of us will go to for them. I have been a fan from
the beginning;
I dragged my Mom down with me (we both drive my Dad nuts). I
never in a
million years imagined that I would meet Darren (much less get a hug
from
him!) or that Daniel would wear a necklace Mom gave him during the
concert.
But it DID happen and it was like a dream...I've never been anyone's
fan
before and I want them to know that they've got me for as long
as they need
fans...and I know that there are others out there that are much the
same.
Thank you again for your support of the quilt
and Happy Birthday; "mine"
was the 20th, even though the guys didn't show up to sing "Happy Birthday",
they WERE part of my present. Mom managed to get a copy of the
Japanese
release of "BMSM"! Have a great week...bye!
Oops, my mistake. I just figured that since it was a quilt to thank
them for
the tour it wouldn't make sense for those who didn't see it to participate.
But I guess it would just be a thank you for coming to America, anyway.
~Lauren :o)

Lauren,
(I was wondering if you could please put this in the newsletter?)
I have a very important request to ask all of you out there in "Savage
Land."
I was wondering if anyone has the very first video for "To the Moon
and Back?"
I have waited for MTV and VH-1 to air it, but I don't think that that's
going
to happen. Also, if anyone has the first Rosie, KIW or any AUstralian
SG
clpis, that would be cool too. I am willing to trade for my "Savage
Garden"
tape. Which is a 5 hour SG tape with various SG clips. Such as,
Regis and
Kathie Lee, Entertainment Tonight, two Rosies, Artists Cut, Blockbuster
Awards, World Music Awards, MTV Live, FANattic, Hard Rock Live, Kids
Choice
Awards, Jay Leno, "the Basement" , 4 different MTV interviews, all
three
American videos (the current "To the Moon and Back" video), and other
"Savage"
clips.
If anyone is interested in trading please, pleae, please e-mail me at
[email protected], I would really apreciate it!
