The Savage Gardener #49

And so another issue arrives! Some of you may remember my little anxiety over
my root canal. Well, I may not have to have it now! They did put something on
my tooth to help it and they let me listen to my SG CD while they worked on
it. To the Moon and Back guided me through the novicane shot! Only problem is
when I Want You came on I wanted to get up and dance but had to settle for
tapping my foot to the beat. Anyhoo, on with the newsletter! Which has tons
and tons of stuff this week!!

In 10 days, America will hear the voices in the Savage Garden

**The new To the Moon and Back video has been released!!!! Watch out for it
and get a sneak peek at the official Sony SG site (www.savagegarden.com) and
see how it matches to the original. It looks like a GREAT video! It seems to
me like Daniel is FINALLY getting equal time cuz it looks like he's in this
vid a lot. It's about time!! Thanks to [email protected] for telling me!

**Billboard stats! Truly is currently at the #12 spot this week on the
Billboard Hot 100 and the album is now at the #18 spot.

**Awful news for those of you who were planning on going to the St. Louis show
at the Fox Theater on June 27th. Darren and Daniel had to cancel the
performance because preparations for the show have taken longer than expected,
resulting in a cancellation for the first appearance. No word on any
reschedules and hopefully this may not result in other cancellations as well.
My most heartfelt sympathy to [email protected], who told me about this,
and those this affects! :o(

Last week's trivia quessie was: what cosmetics corporation is using the phrase
"Truly Madly Deeply" in their print ads and for what product are they

As strange as it may seem, the re-release has caused TTMAB to become MY
favorite! I've always loved it, but now I know it'll always be my favorite.
The third time I heard it on the radio I cried and hugged the radio, LOL. It's
just nice to know that somebody understands, if ya know what I mean. It's
getting positive response from the radio stations down here (ha ha!! I want to
call them and gloat about it!) and I just KNOW that it's gonna do great! For
this song, which is arguably their best yet, I anticipate a very positive
reaction! ~Lauren :o)

 Hi Lauren !
I'm just mailing in from Ireland, and let you know how Savage
Garden are doing.  Well, with then almost hitting No. 1 a couple of
weeks back,  staying at No.2, they've slipped down from last weeks No 3
to this week's No. 5. Saturday 13th is the next official Irish Top 30
singles and albums chart.....I don't know about albums though.  I was
looking for some review of another band, and I knew Savage Garden had
been discreetly noted to be playing in Dublin, but it was only noted
once.  I found a review of that gig while searching for something else.
It's a bad review, and the writer is mean, but the lads are only just
getting somewhere over here ! Here it is :

THE IRISH TIMES, WEDNESDAY, MAY 27,1998

                      REVIEWS
                   "Return to the Eighties"
Savage Garden at the Red Box, Dublin. (reviewd by Aidan Twomey)

' In an age where any trendy band needs a monicker like Curve,
Swerve, Perve, or Verve, calling yourself Savage Garden, conjuring up a
sort of early 1980s romanticsm, is a form of self-imposed exile from
hipness.  Not that Savage Garden pay much attention to fashion, on the
evidence of Monday night's gig.
They play a sort of stadium rock-in-a-box of the most traditional
and radio-friendly kind.  They have two mealy-sounding guitars.  They
wore what looked suspiciously like leather trousers.  They have pretty
backing singers.  They want to see your hands in the air.  It sounds
like Foreigner playing the songs of Simply Red, and it's about as
adventurous as cheese on toast.  They're not afraid to steal from well
known songs either (the most laughable was the chorus of "Smells Like
Teen Spirit"), which is a mite contrived, but it got the bumper crowd
going.
Those who like the music would regard them as great showmen on a
good night out.  The rest see them prancing about the stage, singing in
a silly falsetto and talking in a mid-Atlantic drawl.  A full Red Box
was firmly in the first camp.  I'm afraid I was firmly in the second.'

That's it, but there'a a short (about 5 min) interview with
Savage Garden on one of Ireland's radio stations, 2FM, at :
  http://www.2fm.ie

[email protected]

Tsk tsk, some people! That reviewer better be glad I'm not in Ireland or else
I'd have to do something drastic to him! Actually, with a band who's
popularity is rising there's bound to be negative responses to them, and how I
deal with it is by using my own simple philosophy: If they aren't smart enough
to give them a chance, then they don't deserve to feel the joy it is to be a
fan. And ya know something? It makes me feel better and I so pity those poor
people who won't give them a chance! If they only knew what it's like! In all
seriousness, friends, discovering Daz and Dan and their wonderful music is the
best thing to have ever happened to me! ~Lauren :o)

**The Savage Gardener is on its way to becoming famous!! Our very own
webmistress/Aussie correspondant Sarah managed to get the SGer into the
official Sony SG site!!!!! Check out www.savagegarden.com and see it for
yourself. She's still working on getting it into other things, so let's say a
big THANK YOU for all the hard work she puts into this!! Thanks millions,
Sarah!!!

**Speaking of Sarah, she's updated the Savage Gardener website and it has a
brand new decor! The site looks awesome so be sure to check out her work of
art!! Oh, and be sure to take a look at her awesome collage in the special
pics section. A true Savage masterpiece!

**It's official, everyone. The name of the tour has been changed from the
Future of Earthly Delites to the To the Moon and Back Tour. This is due to the
re-release of TTMAB (which, I may add, seems to be doing great!) whereas the
Delites tour was promoting the release of the Future of Earthly Delites CD and
bonus disc. Now I just have to get it right...Moon, not Delites...Moon, not
Delites...

**A major thank you to everyone who has sent their names in for the Mine
petition (for new members, I'm sending a petition to Columbia to get Mine
released here since they banned it)! We're doing pretty well on this, but I
still need way more if I'm going to send it on to Columbia. Please advertise
on your sites, your newsletters, everything. For those of you who have emailed
me offering help with the SGer if I need it, this is the time when I need you
most! I can't do this alone! So please be sure to join us on this because word
of this may reach Darren and Daniel themselves if it gets big enough! And
you'd want your name to be on the petition, wouldn't you? So PLEASE join in! I
really need you right now!

**Last week one of you emailed me asking for some info about Daniel. When I
was ready to email you back, I realized stupid AOL had deleted the letter so I
don't remember which one of you it was! If you still would like the info, I'm
glad to help! And I'm telling ya...AOL can be such a pain!

**Attention those who have the special Aussie re-release of the CD!! I want
you to go get that CD and open the case. Take the Delites remix CD out and
look at the place which has the acknowledgments and stuff. Now place it on the
floor next to you. What do you see? Hehe, I noticed it for the first time
when it was on my bed while I was dancing to the CD and I casually glanced at
it! Did anyone else notice it before? For those who don't know what I'm
talking about, I'll wait till next week to tell ya cuz I want the people who
do have it to see if they can see what I see (whoa, can you follow that?)!

**Hey you! The one staring at the computer screen! Yeah, YOU! Have you
included your name on the Mine petition? No? And why not?! Tsk, tsk!! Waiting
till the last minute, huh? Just as I suspected. Well, get yer Savage Garden-
loving fingers typing your name and city/state (city/country for some) and
send it to me! What are you waiting for? Darren and Daniel to come and ask you
to? That'd be nice, yeah, but let's face reality! If you want Mine released
you gotta put your name on the petition. Now don't make me
track you down and force it out of you! :oD

That's it for this week's issue of the SGer! PLEASE include yourself on the
Mine petition and advertise on your websites! I really need your help!!

Peace, love, and Savage Garden!
