The Savage Gardener #40
Wow!! This is the 40th issue! It's been nearly a year since the newsletter
first came out (Justin? Do you remember the exact date?). I should
have a huge
celebration for the 50th issue...but I'm limited to what I can do,
LOL.
Anyhoo, I hope you all enjoyed the "To the Moon and Back: A Second
Journey?"
special issue. Thanks to everyone who sent in their thoughts! And speaking
of
thoughts, I got a truckload of comments this week!!

**Daz and Dan performed Truly beautifully (as always!) on Jay Leno.
I don't
know about the rest of you, but I was majorly disappointed because
there was
no interview!! They only said a few words (about the Asian tour and
going back
to Australia for two days), but that was it. By the way, Daz is sporting
some
facial hair!! And is it just me or did his eyes look really bright?
**Truly has set a record on the Rick Dees Weekly Top 40!!! It's the
only song
to hold onto the #2 spot for 8 weeks in the history of the countdown.
The
countdown is heard 'round the world so I'm sure most of you get it!
**Billboard status! Truly drops back to #8 and the album drops back
to #5. But
have no fear, the album has dropped then jumped before!! Same with
Truly!
**I've been getting lots of email saying that Daz and Dan were on MTV
News
1515 last Friday for a quick chat. According to those who who've sent
in stuff
about this, they talked about what they feel makes a band successful
and
Daniel made a comment that if someone can't tell the difference between
Savage
Garden and the Backstreet Boys then they weren't meant to be an SG
fan. I
don't know about the rest of you, but if someone can't tell the diff
between
the two then they have major problems...if any of you can't tell the
diff then
forgive me for the above comment and I suggest comparing their performances!
**Happy anniversary to Savage Garden's self-titled debut album!! It
was one
year ago Wednesday that their CD hit stores in America. In fact, I
made sure
to tell everyone that I came across at school. Sure, they looked at
me weird
when I said "Happy anniversary to Savage Garden's CD!!", but hey...it's
a
special day!!! Besides, with me everyone I know thinks nothing of it.
:o)
**In 1997 Savage Garden made $7.4 million dollars!! Thanks to new member
and
good friend JST N2 CCM for the info!!! And that's a loooooot of money!
**Alrighty, so we all know by now the US/Canadian tour dates have been
announced. I just want to remind you that if there is ANY info regarding
the
tour, I'll let you all know ASAP, so please don't email me a million
messages
a day asking about updates. I'll let you all know as soon as I find
out
anything more. Note: there ARE more dates and locations to be announced!
Now
if you'll excuse me, I gotta go run down my street screaming "THEY'RE
COMING!!
THEY'RE COMING!!!!" Sorry, I'm sooo wired now! :o)
Another note: These dates could change, so don't plan too much on them
being
on the dates I sent yesterday.
**As you all know from the special "To the Moon and Back: A Second Journey?"
issue that was sent prior to this, TTMAB is definitely being re-released.
This
made my dad happy cuz he loves the song and he's been saying for months
that
they should re-release it (in fact, I got a big "I told you so!" from
him.
Anyhoo, I'll let you all know the date of its release when it's announced
(as
said, probably before Break Me Shake Me is released)!
**On May 7th, the 1998 TV Skate Championships will air at 9pm eastern
on ABC
and will include music from Savage Garden!! Don't think it'll be performed,
but hey...their song's on TV once again!!! Enough to make me tape it!
**More info from Sarah! SG will be performing at the World Music Awards
in
Monte Carlo on May 6!!! That's my stupid school's open house date but
I'm
gonna refuse to go, la la la. Nobody will make me miss it!!

Savage Trivia
Last week's trivia question was: What was the first thing Darren bought
when
he got his first paycheck after recording I Want You? The answer was
a
computer!! Congrats to those who got it right (I'm shocked! I thought
tons of
people knew the Daz trivia!!):
[email protected] [email protected] [email protected]
This week's quessie is: what does Daniel plan his schedule on? This
is kinda
weird and I have no idea how, but anyhoo...what is it?

Lauren,
I think you watched the finger licking thing too much!! (I watched it
about 10
times now but..) anyways, MTV has a new show called "Total Request"
Its where
all of the viewers of MTV call in, E-mail in their favorite music video
and
they play it. (If they have lots of votes) anyways, I thought it would
be a
great chance to see "I Want You" or "To the Moon and Back" or "Truly,
Madly,
Deeply" more!! The e-mail addy for the reqest is :
<A HREF="mailto:[email protected]">[email protected]</A>!!
Weelps, Later and
have a dreamy dream about Dan and his quote: "Let me take you home
and get you
into something dry" !!!!!!!!! (sorry, you were so wacky about it on
the
Newsletter!)
WackoHitz
LOL, I don't mean to annoy everyone with my little craze over the Finger
Lick...it's just that the simplest things about him gets me all fluttery
and
excited. BTW, I'm still watching it over and over, hehe. Oh, and I'll
think
about getting psychiactric help. My friend's dad is a psychiatrist.

Ok, we all knew that <A HREF="http://members.aol.com/Graviton13/">Riley's
Savage Garden Homepage</A> was the best savaged page on the net,
but now, he
has added some more Real Video. Now at the site there are FULL vids
for all of
the Aussies (cept Universe) available to DOWNLOAD!!!!! Plus there are
LIVE
performances, like ones that I have missed like the Kid's Choice Awards,
The
ARIA's, and most of the other ones. So if you have Real Audio, you
are in
luck, JACKPOT!!!!!!!! WOOHOO!!! If he only had the vids for TTMAB (us)
the
Blockbuster Entertainment Awards, MTV Live, the second appearance on
Rosie,
and Leno (I'll have that) He'd have ALL of the known performances (here
anyway). WOOOHOOO!!!!!1
SG83JP
I'd have to agree...Riley's page is incredible. BTW, I checked out the
videos
and Riley DOES have the US TTMAB video! But I just have to say that
Real Audio
sucks. The music's playing one line while Darren is singing another.
They
gotta fix that cuz it looks like a cheap cartoon dub. ~Lauren :oD

LOL Hey Lauren! I finally have time to write to you and tell you that
you do a
wonderful job on this newsletter! Thanx for sharing all your info.
with all of
us! Oh and the finger lick! OMG that is a definate MUST-SEE for all
Daniel
lovers! But as for the re-release of To The Moon And Back, I think
it could be
a good idea. It's a great song, and I really don't know why us Americans
didn't hear too much from it. But I think that now they are really
popular,
people will notice the song more, and really appreciate it for what
it is.
Well, thanx again!
MerNdan
Thanks for the compliments O Fellow Dan Lover! Didn't that Finger Lick
just
make you melt?! It's a classic! ~Lauren :o)

The same day as rosie and MTV live. I only got one fact on tape though.

hi lauren..........
Don't know if you've heard this already, but Savage Garden appeared
on MTV
(again) on Saturday the 11th. It was different from the MTV Live appearance.
Here's a brief account of what happened this time, if you want to use
it for
the newsletter:
MTV's Kurt Loder reported on the previous "not-coolness" of pop in the
modern
music industry. He pointed out that Savage Garden have become the nameless
artists behind a rising wave of pop. To prove their point, the guys
from MTV
took the Truly Madly Deeply single out into the streets of New York
and asked
people to indentify it. Two girls recognized it as Savage Garden; most
of the
guys said the Backstreet Boys. Only three people were able to name
it as
Truly, although most of them recognized it.
This didn't seem faze Daniel and Darren much (Lauren, note the placement
of
Daniel's name first! I'm a devoted Daniel fan as well : ) ). When asked
about
the comparison to the Backstreet Boys, Daniel replied "If you listen
to our
album and their album you will find definite differences; and if you
don't
find them then you were not meant to be a Savage Garden fan." Ouch!
But he
definitely has a point. Darren, when asked the same question, replied.
"Personally I think the only similarity there is is that we're male.
I mean,
we can't dance for sh**!" :)
The interview ended and Kurt Loder commented on the rise of both Truly
and the
album on the American charts.
Hope this helps, Lauren. Keep up the great work with the newsletter
- it's
been my primary source of Savage Garden news since you took it over.
Oh, and
by the way - I would say I'll fight you for Daniel, but that wouldn't
be nice.
How about we share him? I'll take him three days a week, and since
you work so
hard with the newsletter, you can have him for four. Look, it even
works out
very conveniently for me, considering my name and the name of his
girlfriend....
Delphi Kat
Fight? I love fights! <gets out cheap plastic sword> Un guarde!!
LOL, as soon
as Daniel and Michelle break up (they may have already, it was a while
ago
that she was around) he may not want to have another one with the same
name
*wink wink*. Gasp!! Share Danny?! Hmm...this'll take a lot of thinking...I'll
get back to you on that in, oh...20 years. Hehe, thanks for your comments!
~Lauren :o)

ok i saw the rosie show, with my friend angel. Lauren you have done
a great
job with this. and i learn new things from it...i didn't know what
dan drove,
and i really don't care.(not to be rude, but i don't) i read the letter
but it
didn't say what they did with the award. that bites(is not the best
speller)
oh and my mum is getting the Pandora by anne rice. don't ask why. And
as i
keep saying DANIEL JONES IS LAUREN'S WHOEVER TRIES TO TAKE HIM
WILL DEAL WITH
ME AND LAUREN.
LadySrnity
LOL, so you'll help me fight Delphi Kat if we get into a huge battle?
Thank
ya, Tasha dear, you've always been a supporter of me and Danny, LOL.
As for
the award, I assume you're talking about the triple-platinum award
they gave
to Rosie. They gave it to her as a thank you for all the support she's
given
them (notice how she said "I love this group!" repeatedly during the
show).
Anyhoo, thanks for your letter! ~Lauren :o)

You
know I thought of you when he said that! I figured oh gosh, Lauren
is going
to have a fit on this one!!!! LOL ~Space helping Lauren
up off the floor!~
:)
...You're doing a great job on the newsletter!!!! When do you
find the time?!
Keep up the good work and get some sleep!!!! :)
SpceFerret
LOL, as I said in the email I sent ya, it's very sweet of you to think
of me
when Danny does something drool-worthy (which is like 100% of the time!).
And
I guess I did kinda have a fit, hehe. Thanks for your sweet comments
and to
let ya know...I'm a night owl so it gives me plenty of time to get
the
newsletter done by Thursday night! ~Lauren :o)

IF ANYONE CAN MAKE AN EXTRA TAPE OF THE JAY LENO APPEARENCE AND SEND
IT TO A
HEART-BROKEN SGFAN, IT WOULD VERY MUCH BE APPRECIATED!!! I taped
only 1
second of them since I had it on program to record them but I
taped only
until 11:30! If you can make a tape and send it to me, that'd
be great! E-
mail me and we'll chat.

**As most of you know, Darren's birthday is coming up in less than a
month
(May 8). I'd like you to send me your birthday messages to that oh-so-loveable
Mr. Hayes which will then be compiled together and forwarded on to
Darren. I
hear he does read the emails, so he will very likely get it. Say as
much as
you need but try to keep the messages fairly brief, and include your
name
(last name only if you feel comfortable adding it; I'll add your email
address). The reason I'm doing this early is because I want to give
you all
enough time to figure out what you want to say (and feel free to change
your
letters even after you've sent them to me if you think of something
else you
want to say). Don't miss out on this! I'll need all birthday wishes
by
Saturday, May 2. One more thing, and I'm dead serious about this: any
death
wishes or insults to Colby (for newer fans, Colby is Darren's wife)
will NOT
be sent, so keep it sweet! Let Darren know how much you love him and
your
thoughts will be with him on his special day.
**My dear friend and Aussie correspondant Sarah has made a website for
the
Savage Gardener!! It looks great and right now she's working on getting
the
newsletter into the official fanzine!! The page looks AWESOME and many
many
thanks to Sarah for taking the time to do this! Also, there is a place
for
member profiles so if you'd like to be on there, just follow her example.
This
is optional so you don't have to do it, but I hope you all do!
http://www.fortunecity.com/tinpan/suede/263/
And so concludes this week's issue of the Savage Gardener. Any comments
about
the definite re-release of TTMAB? Let us know what's on your mind!
And don't
forget to send your birthday wishes for Darren! Till next time, have
a Savage
week! And to Delphi Kat: hope you realize I'm joking with the responses
to
your letter! I don't want to start anything! Keep on drooling over
Dan! And
don't you all forget to visit our new website designed by the lovely
Sarah
<insert applause here>!!
Peace, love, and Savage Garden!
Lauren ( <A HREF="mailto: [email protected]">[email protected]</A>
)
P.S. If ya visit our new webpage (which I hope you do!) don't forget
to sign
the guestbook and let Sarah and me know you were there!
