The Savage Gardener #118

Alrighty, so my beloved sign (the Savage Garden fan parking only sign that I
won on eBay) arrived on Monday and it's sooo cute! I think I'm going to have
to take a pic of it and send it to the Fanzine. It's hanging right next to my
framed Savage Garden poster (debut album cover) and my Savage Garden
calendar. Although in all the Fanzine pics, these people have 800 gazillion
stuff on their walls covering every last square inch of the room! Anyway,
with that aside...I'm so impatiently awaiting my chance to see the "Crash and
Burn" video! I've been hearing how gorgeous it is from people who have seen
it, and I'm especially eager to see Darren perform the last verse in sign
language. Hopefully, we'll be given an official premiere date soon!! Not much
news this week, unfortunately, but we have a very special presentation by my
friend Tammy! She did a behind the scenes "special" of the Savage Song Awards
that were done 2 weeks ago (if you're a new member and missed the SSAs, I'm
sorry in advance for the confusion because you won't know what's going on. If
you'd like to see a copy of the SSAs, just let me know!). I'll be sending the
show just as soon as I get the SGer out, so stay tuned...er...online!

**I doubt most of you will read this until Friday, but just in case: Don't
forget Savage Garden's appearance on "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" TONIGHT
at 11:35pm on NBC. In my TV Guide thing it says musical guest Enrique
Iglesias, but we'll see!

**"Affirmation" is at #34 this week on the Billboard charts while "I Knew I
Loved You" hangs on to #8.

I saw the Crash video on Much Music (from Canada, even though I live in NY)
today (Friday).  I just have to say it is the most fantstic video I have ever
seen and 30 seconds into the video I already had tears in my eyes.  There are
all these motivational phrases that appear in the video.  I'm sure you'll
love it as much as I do.

Note from me! This a bit of info from various appearances Darren did in honor
of being selected as Artist of the Month for MTV Asia. And also, "Leo" is
Tiara's nickname for me (as in Leonie Messer - the biggest compliment I've
ever gotten!).

Hey Leo! Here are the news...

* Here are Darren's Top Ten Fave Music Videos, in no particular order: (shot
2000)

-> Britney Spears "Born To Make You Happy"
-> Backstreet Boys "Show Me The Meaning Of Being Lonely" (how
strange...it's on the radio now!)
    -> Macy Gray "I Try"
    -> U2 "The Sweetest Thing"
-> Alanis Morrisette "That I Would Be Good"
-> Celine Dion "That's The Way It Is"
-> Savage Garden "I Knew I Loved You"
-> Whitney Houston "My Love Is Your Love"
    -> Madonna "Ray Of Light"
    -> TLC "Unpretty"

* And these are the vids Darren picked on In Control (shot 1997)

    -> Madonna "Vogue"
-> U2 "Even Better Than The Real Thing"
-> Sarah Mclachlan "Building A Mystery"
    -> Annie Lennox "Why"
-> Third Eye Blind "Semi-Charmed Life"

* Remember that website about The Vampire Casting Game? Well, a movie based
on "Queen Of The Damned" is in the works, and the band composing the film
score (and most probably the band playing Satan's Night Out) is...<drumroll>
KORN!!!
Arrgh! Darren is not even playing Lestat :P It's being acted by Wes Bently.
Hey, the news report said that QOTD is the 3rd in the Vampire Chronicles
trilogy...if one of them is Interview, which is the second one? *hopes second
book doesn't have a film yet* Then Savage Garden can take over that film! :)
Maybe there'll be some SG references...who knows?

Hey, how cool is this?  Savage Garden is getting some special attention from
VH1.  Go to www.VH1.com.  They have two message boards specifically for
Savage Garden fans.  Several SG fans are trying to convince VH1 to feature
Savage Garden as their Artist of the Month and to do a Savage Garden
Storytellers show.  If you'd like to help, we'd love to have you.

Please, go to http://messageboards.vh1.com/vh1/.  If you haven't posted
there before, register.  It's easy and free.  There are two boards.  One is
for general ideas for Savage Garden and VH1, and it's under "artist" and
"Savage Garden" on the main page.  The other is specifically for
Storytellers, so you need to click on "storytellers," then "Savage Garden on
Storytellers" AND POST.  THEN email VH1 at [email protected] and request SG
as their Artist of the Month.
Thanks so much for your time, Lauren.  Hope you have a great day.

I am looking for a specific UK cd.  It is the Truly Madly Deeply CD2 with a
track listing of TMD, TMD (night radio edit) IWY and IBHWC.  I will pay for
it.

**So I pulled my Savage Garden debut album out from its place on my shelf,
dusted it off, and proceeded to actually play it for the first time in
months. I bonded with it again after so long of non-stop "Affirmation", and
while listening to it, I realized just how much stronger Darren's voice has
gotten. There's a big difference, and I never noticed it before. I just
thought it was interesting how much more quality of his voice there is in
"Affirmation", when I thought his voice in "Savage Garden" was fantastic. Now
he's 100% perfect, AND still has the best voice and best vocal ability out
there!!

**We've got some Savage Creativity here!!! [email protected] thought it'd be
fun to write up a Savage Personal ad! Here's his!

"I Want You!"

30 y.o., SWPM in the suburban Chicago area seeks SWPF 25-38 for friendship
and see if it may turn into "The Best Thing". Must like to spend time running
through the jungle, the wind in our hair and the sand at our feet, and flying
"To the Moon and Back."

With me "You Can Still Be Free", "Carry on Dancing", whisper "A Thousand
Words", and shed "A Thousand Tears".

I am not into immediately "Gunning Down Romance" so if you would be
interested in talking to me drop me a line.  You don't have to make me any
"Promises" and then I will no longer have to say "I Don't Know You Anymore."

Please send all replies to:  [email protected].

Very cute!! Can anyone else top this one??

**I'm driving myself INSANE here! There's a part in "Chained to You" where
you can hear Darren's voice very faintly, and I SWEAR he says something like
"Affirmation - you're not alone" or something. I KNOW it's there, I just
don't know what it says. Ok, here's a lyrical map so you can listen for it
and help me out before I go stark-raving mad, have to be committed to an
asylum, then have my family sue Savage Garden for causing this (also, the
mystery of the Latin bit in "I Want You" has never been solved!). Anyway,
here's the lyrical map....

...second/third verse...

...dah dah dah, the unbelievably awesome guitar based solo thingy in the
middle of the song that sounds a bit like a 60's surfer song in my opinion....

...music fades a bit...

...Darren starts to sing again...

And I think about you all the time...
~*~*~**~It's right here! It's there! Very faintly! LISTEN TO IT!~*~**~*~
Yeah, I think about you all the time...

(Tell me it's madness, I barely know you)

...dah dah dah...end of song....

It's THERE! I'm TELLING YOU!! If anyone has a really great state of the art
stereo system, do something and help me! I know it's there, people!!

**Alright, so I promised myself I wouldn't compare the two albums because
they were written years apart and the guys were going through two completely
different lives and yadda yadda yadda, but I just can't help myself. This is
the Battle of the Love Songs, people!!! Which do you prefer, the poetry-like
simplicity of "Truly Madly Deeply", or the more pop-like Soul Mate Song (as
described by the afternoon DJ at Star 98.7, Ryan Seacrest) "I Knew I Loved
You"? And most importantly, WHY??

**After 2 years of doing the SGer (well, 2 years unless you count the 6 month
absence last summer), I'm getting plain old BORED with the format of this
newsletter. I'm looking for a new "design" and can't think of any, so I'm
appealing to all you lovely people out there for help. Keep in mind that
because of the number of internet subscribers (ie non-AOLers), I'm not able
to put pictures in the newsletter. So, any bright ideas out there?!

**You know what I just realized? I'm 10 issues away from MY 100th issue of
doing the SGer!!

Alrighty, that's it for this week. Hope you enjoy the Leno appearance, and
stay tuned for ALL the latest news on the "Crash and Burn" release, and the
"Affirmation" World Tour! Tickets are already on sale in Australia for the
Australian dates! In the meantime, enjoy reading Tammy's reporting of what
happened after the SSAs! I just finished reading them myself and I nearly
fell out of my chair!! Tammy, you did such an incredible job on it, so THANK
YOU so much for doing this!! And I SWEAR I didn't put all those mentions of
me and Krycek in there, especially Pandora's part! Anyhoo, thanks also to
those who participated in that, and I'll catch ya next week!!

Peace, love, and Savage Garden!

DISCLAIMER: I do not own Darren Hayes and/or Daniel Jones. I wish I did, but
since slavery isn't legal in the U.S. anymore, I'm outta luck. I make no
money for the "publication" of this newsletter, so if you're a nasty big
company like that dumb Hit Records, don't waste your time suing me
(especially since you're probably trying to get a chunk of Savage's earnings,
anyway). My family gets a  big laugh everytime my bank statement arrives.
Besides, my life savings consist of $2.54. The program you have just watched
contains real-life stories. The names have been changed to protect the
innocent. Is that your final answer?
