The Savage Gardener #100 ~Farewell Issue~

Wow, I honestly didn't expect the end to come this soon, but here we are. At
least we made it to #100, right? Summer vacation is here at last for me,
although I'm not as happy as I probably should be. This may seem weird to all
of you, but it actually hurts me to leave this (I know what you're thinking:
Then why QUIT?!). But as much as I love it I know that this is something I
have to do. And please smack me if I start sounding like a Dawson's Creek
episode with extra cheese filling. So what am I going to do with my free time
now? First of all, I'm going to to try to win/bid on a Star Wars trilogy on
www.ebay.com (you know, that auction place). I've been outbid a couple times,
those vultures! So if anyone knows to hack/throw someone offline, I'd really
appreciate if you'd lend your services in order for me to get my beloved
trilogy. Bad, I know, but I'll do anything to get what I want. Especially
when what I want is no longer available in stores :) Anyway, instead of using
song lyrics for the little divider things, I'm going to use appropriate
quotes from Darren and Daniel. And now on with the newsletter, for the last
time...and I promise that nobody turns to the Dark Side in this last issue,
right Tammy? :D

**Here's a bit of "warning" news for you. I was holding off on telling this
because I didn't have anything conclusive, but I figured that if I at least
told you the rumors, you could keep an ear open for it. Anyhoo, word is the
next SG single will be called "The Best Thing" and is set to air towards the
end of July/beginning of August. Remember, this is NOT definite and there's
been NO official word on the validity of this rumor. But just in case, stay
tuned to the official Sony Savage Garden website, where you'll most likely
get the best updates from now on.

                                            Savage Trivia

Last week's trivia question was: While on the U.S. tour, what did Darren name
his bed in the tour bus? The answer is, the Monkey Bunk! I've gotten a few
people asking why he called it that, but I've heard a few reasons so I don't
know the truth. I guess the only thing you can do now is search on your own
:P  Anyhoo, congrats to those who got it right:

Written for the Savage Gardener "series finale" to show my deep admiration
and gratitude for Lauren and the who SGer Family! I will truly miss you all!

Lauren,
I just wanted to say that we are all going to miss you and the newsletter.
Getting the newsletter was almost always the highlight of my week. Through
out this last year it felt that the entire Savage Gardner subscribers have
become like family, sharing stories and a great common love of Savage Garden.
I want to tell everyone that I will miss hearing what everyone has to say,
and I know we will all miss your usually hilarious responses. Best of luck to
you in whatever else you decide to do! Keep in touch!

Truly, Madly, Deeply your fellow Savage fan,
Elizabeth

I just want to say that i think you have done an awesome job and it amazes me
that someone has this much pactience and such a strong love for one band to
do this (the newsletter) for over a year.  I'm so proud of you! (i probably
sound like a mom right about now) Well, all in all I am really going to
missing getting this and I have to say every week i looked foward to what
people were saying.  Your newsletter was probably one of the best ones out
there.  Also, I think it would be cool if we could all still keep in touch so
as for anyone that is interested my screen name is Ceri72 and i wouldnt mind
(it would actually be cool) for you all to IM me!  We can then all still keep
up with all the latest on Savage Garden cause most of my friends dont like
Savage Garden and they are getting pretty bored of hearing how hot Darren is.
Well, anyway Lauren, you have done an absolutely fantastic job with this and
you should really give yourself a pat on the back!  or um, *cyber pat on the
back*.  ok so that doesnt work!  Enjoy your well deserved retirement from
this!

LAuRen!
once again i want to thank you for producing this newsletter in the
first place..it was like opening up a lil' GIFT every week!

in regards to the new album..i was just wondering...i'm guessing that
the first album took many years to produce..do you think the second album
will be as good if they only have less then 2 years to work on it? will it
just be quickly scrambeld together to meet a deadline? i hope not..please
don't dissapoint me! that was just a thought...
in truth.. I wouldn't want savage garden to hit wordwide fame . if
everybody likes them it just seems to depreciate them..if only a small crowd
likes them then we hold a special treasure not a "quick rise to the top but
transient band" i like bands that only get a little attention but produce
good music with loyal fans, not the casual ones who like sg for only one
song. i pray that mtv will not support them..i know they are called "pop" for
popular music..but i don't think they are popular and that's good ! . i hope
sg has matured as a band and as people (not that they were immature..just to
learn and know more)and continue to show how real and creative their talent
is. does anyone understand? anybody?! does anybody agree? ok...
  goodbye! and God bless!

[email protected]

I agree wholeheartedly! Down with MTV for feeding the annoying teenybopper
frenzy (among other things!). On one hand I don't want to them to become
huge, although they're already on their way, but on the other I want them to
because they've worked so hard for this and it's about time GOOD musicians
get credit instead of fake ones who rely on their looks or some other kind of
commercialism (like shock rock). I think it's okay for someone to like only
one song, I like plenty of bands/singers like that. If anyone wants to
continue this debate, remember to email her and not me because I'm not here
anymore! ~Lauren :o)

PAY ATTENTION TO THIS!!!!

Hi! The reason why I'm emailing you is because for the past couple months
I've been putting together a petition to try to get VH1 to book Savage Garden
on the show Storytellers. Right now I have 129 names and email addresses,
which isn't bad, but I was hopeing for a better reaction.  I was thinking
about turning it in anyways, when I remembered the Savage Gardener.  I know
you have a wide audience for the Gardener, mainly because it's so awesome! :)
I was wondering if you would be willing to help me out.  I'm hopeing to turn
it in to VH1 within the next week or so, in order to give them time to book
them soon after the new album is out, if they so desire. I'd really
appreciate the help, if you could give me some.  If not, I understand, just
thought I'd check to be sure.  All I'm gathering is names (whether it be real
names or internet handles) along with the email addresses of those
interested.  They can be sent to me at this account: [email protected]

[email protected]

Alrighty, I gave her all my info, and YOU better too!! This is a great idea!
Since I can't bug you all for 80 million weeks like I have with the other
petitions, I hope you'll get on task right this second and do it now. Don't
put it off because I won't be around to remind you every week! ~Lauren :o)

Hi Lauren!  You can put all of this in the newsletter if you would like.

While on the U.S. tour, what did Darren name his bed in the tour bus?
Ok darn it!  I did know this one!  It was Monkey something.  Darn.  I don't
remember where I saw it!  LOL

The answer is, a kookaburra (whatever that is!).
A kookaburra is an Australian bird!  It makes a laughing sound!  For real!
Do you want a link of one?  Well here you go!  ROFL
<A HREF="http://business.netcon.net.au/listen/Kookaburra.html">Call of the
Laughing Kookaburra
</A>

Also, here is a link for anyone who wants really cool SG audio/video stuff.
It's got everything!
<A HREF="http://members.xoom.com/savagemedia">SavageMedia - the ultimate
source of Savage Garden audio/visual downloads.
</A>

As far as the "not a song like Truly" on the new album, I don't think it's a
bad thing.  Truly was the emotion at the time.  I love this song (one of my
favorites) and the others as well.  I think the new album should be awesome.
It will be interesting to see how they have matured through the songs.  What
the songs say and feel.  Depressing or not, I think they will be, well,
Savage!  :)  I admire them for that.  Expressing through the music.  I
appreciate them more for that.  I support the guys and I'm ready for what
they give us!  :)

If you could please put this in too!  Well, basically, I don't feel right
sending birthday wishes from everyone to Darren and not to Daniel (because of
the newsletter ending). So everyone who wants to send Daniel birthday wishes,
please e-mail it to
<A HREF="mailto:[email protected]">[email protected]</A> and PLEASE put
*Daniel's birthday wish* in the subject so I DON'T delete your e-mail!
Actually, what I will do is when I receive a birthday e-mail, I will respond
back immediately to let you know I got the e-mail!  Sounds good!  :)  E-mail
me by July 10.  Thank you!

Ok, Lauren, I guess I have been putting this off because I didn't know what
to say.  I'm going to miss the newsletter.  You've done such an excellent,
awesome job on it.  I know Savage Garden would be proud of everything you've
done.  I am!  What memories eh?!  From concerts to "The Animal Song."  When
you think about it there has been a lot of stuff!  :)  Well, I understand why
you are stopping the newsletter.  What are you going to do with yourself
now?!  LOL  Just kidding!  Hehehe  All the best Lauren and please keep in
touch!  {{{{HUGS}}}}  :)

Hi Lauren!  Please include this in your last issue!
Since this will be the last SGer, and the last time we have a way to speak to
a lot of SG fans at once, I have something I would like to ask everyone to
consider.  You know how we have all been wondering how the new album will be
accepted?  I have a friend that is a promotional manager at a radio station
in Texas and she tells me that the early buzz on the new album is all good!
(Isn't that great to hear!)
Well, I know that everyone subscribed to the SGer are big fans of Darren and
Daniel and want them to continue to be successful everywhere in the world.
Radio stations respond to what their listeners say they want to hear.  We all
can help SG by requesting their new song as soon as it is released.  Let's
show the guys how much we support them!  Either call or send email requests
to your local radio stations or video stations like VH1, MuchMusic or MTV.
It only takes a minute to do and it's a way of thanking Daniel and Darren for
sharing with us this very special gift of their music.  I remember the first
time my radio station played TAS.  I called them right up to thank them for
playing it and told them how much I loved it.  The DJ said they really
appreciated my call.  They are really interested in hearing what songs are
getting positive responses.  That's how they decide what songs to keep in the
rotation and which ones to drop, especially in the first weeks after release.
 We can make a difference!
Sorry that got a little long!  I can't wait for the new song!  I'm sure our
patience will be rewarded.  Thanks for all of your hard work Lauren!  I'll
miss you and the SGer!
~Cindy

Lauren,

Thank-you for all your work on the Savage Gardener - I can't imagine how hard
it must have been to keep up in school and do a weekly newsletter!  All of
the information and comments that I have enjoyed since issue 74 have inspired
me to start my own savage journal - it will probably be the first one ever
done in braille!  I am looking forward to the next album, even though Darren
has described it as depressing.  He's been through a lot of difficult changes
in the last two years and I would expect that to affect his music.  Besides,
I always thought many of the songs on the first album told the story of a
relationship anyway.  I hope that the new album will do as well as the first
one - maybe they will be the next Tina Turner!

Good luck, Lauren - I'll miss you!

Hey Lauren,

I know this is really late, but if you still can, could you please put it in
the SGer?

I have to say I'm really sad to be getting the Last Savage Gardener.  I have
been getting it for ages, and really love it.  I have met many great Savage
Garden Fans, and has seen what awesome Fans Darren and Daniel have.  You all
seem to love the music, and the guys, and it has brought people young, old,
from North America, UK, Australia, Europe and Asia together.  Darren and
Daniel have not only given us great music, but great bonds too.  Lauren, what
can we say?  You have done a wonderful job.  I want to say thank you for all
the work you have put in every week to make this thing work.  As a grade 12
student, I know what a scarse thing time is.  Thank you so much!  We will
miss you and the Savage Gardener!!

Stay Savage,

Kerry

**My very last Savage Site advertisement:

http://www.usfaz.com/members/sghome/

Done by the young lady who managed the SGer's webpage. The page is called
Just a Twist in Time, so check it out because it's AWESOME!

**One last advertisement for the quilt project: Check out the URL at
http://www.geocities.com/Area51/Vault/5911/savgard.html
for more info!!

**I think Darren said it best:

"This is a farewell of sorts...for a long time. We have to take some much
needed rest...get our thoughts together and try and remember what real life
is about for a little while. Before you know it...we will be in the
studio...working on more magic. Until then...we are going to go away until we
have something thoughtful to say. Thanks for the memories. See you in THE
FUTURE....."

Just take out the part about the studio. Oh, and the "we" part, too :)  As
for the coming back part, who knows? Maybe I'll pick up the SGer again, maybe
I won't. I have to figure out if I just needed a little "vacation" or if it
really is time for me to stop permanently. I guess all I can say is to check
the SGer's website from time to time for the best updates.

**A farewell from the Savage Gardener's webmistress...

100!  Well, what can I say?  Ironically this is but one of a few
endings in my life at the moment, but, one thing I've learned is that
necessarily, from endings come new beginnings.  As Sarah Mclauchlin says in
'Do What You Have to Do', "Fate has lead you through it, you do what you
have to do".  Evidently, quitting the newsletter was a hard decision for
Lauren to make, but in the end, this is what she's had to do, and somehow
everything will turn out for the best. What can never be undone though, is
the fact that the 'Savage Gardener' will always remain as the best produced,
most mature and organised ezine on Savage Garden.  It really did bring heaps
of fans around the world together, whether over email, chat or in the
'outside world'.  I know that because of it I've certainly forged some very
special friendships of my own.  Obviously, everyone's appreciation
of Savage Garden and their extraordinary work grew immensely, and I'm sure
you, like I will continue to recognise their talent and enjoy what they give
to you on that 'extra' personal level that they seem to be able to reach in
each of us.  Lauren helped point out the significance of so much of their
work.  She aimed to share her perspectives and create appreciation for the
two boys who truly deserve it, not only because their music is the best but
because they are probably two of the nicest, most sincere celebs in the
world!  *That* is a true fan.  So Lauren, thank you.  Best of luck to you
always.
Thanks also to all you guys for welcoming me and embracing the
'Savage Gardener' web page.  It's still going to be there as an archive of
the newsletter, and will be updated by Lauren and myself with new news and as
well, contributions by you, the members, are always welcome.
Stay in touch, and stay Savage!

Sarah :)

NOTE: The Savage Gardener's website address has CHANGED. You can now find it
at
http://fly.to/savage_gardener

I have one last thing that I was asked to include at the last minute.
Unfortunately, it was too big so I'll be sending it separately (sorry, KC and
Brittany!). Two subscribers ([email protected] and [email protected]) made a sort
of "mini-newsletter" filled with goodbye comments from some subscribers. I
don't know what to say, but I'll try anyway :)  This actually brought me to
tears, and I totally broke down when I told my mom. She read the first two
pages (I'm printing it as we speak) and she started to cry too. It means the
world to me to know that you took the time to do this. I'm awe-struck. I
can't tell you how much it means to me; there are no words to express how
much I appreciate this. I will treasure this forever, that's for sure.
Anyway, I was asked to include this in this issue, but as I said, it was too
big to fit so I'll be sending it as soon as I send the SGer. In order to see
the picture/collage (thank you, Kandi! It's amazing!) you have to have AOL
4.0, but KC has it on her website if you want to go see it -
http://members.aol.com/BSBNASGAC5/sg.html
(Scroll down and click on the Savage Garden logo)
Once again, THANK YOU so so much for doing this, KC and Brittany. I will
never forget it. Oh yeah - and how in the world did you do this?? As in -
where did all the messages come from? How'd you reach all these people?? :o)

Well, there you have it. I'm sure I'll see a lot of you out here in
cyberspace at times. Also, I won't be deleting my address book for a few
months at least, just in case I decide to come back. I've had one heck of a
great time doing this thing, and I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did. I'll
be there outside the local music store the morning of the Savage Garden album
release with the rest of you, be sure of that! Enjoy the album, the upcoming
tours, promotional appearances, and anything else Savage that comes our way
so long as Darren and Daniel are together (let's hope for a very long, long
time!). Thanks for the memories! Here's to many more Savage Garden albums to
come, and thank you for giving me the opportunity to be a part of your fandom.

For the last time...

Peace, love, and Savage Garden!
Lauren ( <A HREF="mailto: [email protected]">[email protected]</A> )

DISCLAIMER: I do not own Darren Hayes and/or Daniel Jones. I wish I did, but
since slavery isn't legal in the U.S. anymore, I'm outta luck. I make no
money for the "publication" of this newsletter, so if you're a nasty big
company like that dumb Hit Records, don't waste your time suing me
(especially since you're probably trying to get a chunk of Savage's earnings,
anyway). Besides, my family gets a huge laugh everytime my bank statement
arrives, so I don't think it's worth your time and effort to pursue someone
who can only give you about $2.54.  The program you have just watched
contains real-life stories. The names have been changed to protect the
innocent.
